A very interesting developing storyline in the WHSBLA this year are the effects of conference realignment. Some games played as a result of the new regional system have been pretty one-sided, but fear not loyal readers, as

Our first nice weekend evening for Washington lacrosse found your Soundlacrosse crew at a couple of Puget Sound matchups. Seattle Academy at Seattle Prep - If I’m completely honest, I think the most intriguing thing about this matchup for me was that for the first time in Washington State Lacrosse history, two teams with a player named “Atticus” faced each other. Prep’s Atticus Harmon is a junior defender while Academy’s Atticus Shantz is a middie who helped Garfield to an appearance in last year’s state championship game. I was very ready for some Atticus on Atticus action. Story by McNutty
Bellevue makes a strong debut in route to a 10-3 victory over Bainbridge Island.
This year’s edition of the Central South conference promises exciting times. Last season saw the addition of two new varsity expansion teams in Vancouver, with the birth of Camas and Union. Both are fielding JV teams this season and the growth is looking good down south. In the Tri-Cities, Richland split to see the birth of Southridge in 2014. Tri- Cities continues to grow and hopes to have both programs fielding JV squads next season. Selah will remain a part of the Central South Conference, but will only be fielding a junior varsity squad this spring.

AUBURN, Wash. – For high school student-athletes the opportunity to continue with their sport at the NCAA level is a rarity – reserved for the hardest working, most talented of the bunch. At Auburn Riverside High School that’s playing out for seniors Michael and Joey Lucchesi, who have signed National Letters of Intent to play lacrosse at NCAA Division II
Team Washington will be hosting a benefit youth clinic on Saturday, February 22nd, for a local coach and his family who are battling breast cancer. Coaches from around the state are coming together to run the event as a way to help this family, as well as giving back to the local lacrosse community. The list of coaches participating include the winners of EVERY STATE CHAMPIONSHIP for the last 15 years. Without question, this is the strongest group of coaches you will ever see on one field working with our kids.
As in other walks of life, there was no shortage of controversy and debate in lacrosse in 2013. Early recruiting continues to get earlier, with a handful of high school freshman making verbal commitments to college programs in September. A pair of lawmakers in February introduced a bill in Maryland that would have required headgear to be worn during girls' youth practices and games. But following input from US Lacrosse on continuing efforts to increase safety through the development of headgear specific to women's lacrosse and standardized, mandated coaches and officials education,
BELLEVUE, Wash. – A warm blanket on a chilly night for most of us is just a step away in the linen closet down the hall or in the bottom drawer of the bedroom dresser. But for homeless teens, many from Native American cultures, seeking refuge from the elements, and circumstances, warmth and security are coveted treasures — and game changers. A game that student-athletes of the two-time defending Washington state champion Bellevue High School boys lacrosse team is changing one blanket at a time for young people at Seattle’s

SNOQUALMIE, Wash. – When you think about high school sports and their role in the lives of young people; instilling the importance of teamwork, respect, work ethic and a sense of contributing to something bigger than self all come to mind. Along the way there are experiences that shape character; dealing with adversity, leadership and giving back. For Mount Si High School student-athletes playing lacrosse it all came in a single package when former Washington state champion goaltender, collegiate lacrosse standout and Marine Corps veteran Chris Castleberry reached out to their up-and-coming program. Major changes in substitution procedures in high school boys' lacrosse will take effect with the 2014 season. For stoppages of play due to an out of bounds ball, a horn will no longer be sounded to allow time for substitution. Instead, players may substitute "on the fly" as they can during normal play. This was one of 19 rules changes approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Boys Lacrosse Rules Committee at its July 16-18 meeting in Indianapolis. All rules changes were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors. Story by

It's hard to write about Kevin Giblin without first rattling off his achievements. Nine IAC titles. Two Inside Lacrosse national championships. A 400-85 record at Georgetown Prep with 200 players matriculating to Division I, including 35 high school All-Americans. That's all rather astonishing. His innate knowledge for the sport of lacrosse got him to 400 wins, but perhaps more so his fiery coaching style. Giblin is as passionate as they come and while he may apply tough love to his players, his tactics have been effective, while his ability to teach his pupils is unmatched. By Ty Xanders at
No doubt it was Adam and Eve, watching their feuding sons fail to appreciate the largesse in their luxurious backyard garden, who shook their heads in disappointment and uttered for the first time the words destined to be repeated by every generation: Kids today. Every incarnation of America's youth is theoretically worse than the one before it -- given more yet somehow less appreciative and more entitled. Story by Dana O'Neil at

High scoring week as eight times teams hit the 17 goal mark or more! Bellevue and Mercer Island each hit the mark twice. Though the Islanders second 17 goal game came in a relative shootout in a 17-12 win over Auburn Riverside. Closest game of the week, as we suspected, was played between Sammamish-Newport and Snohomish. Morgan White made three huge saves in the final minutes including one at the buzzer to preserve a one goal win for Sammamish-Newport..jpg)

BALTIMORE — The US Lacrosse Board of Directors today approved the following statement on the complex nature of the collegiate recruiting process for high school student-athletes. The statement was developed by the national volunteer and staff leadership of US Lacrosse, in consultation with members of the coaching community, and it reads as follows:
I moved to the Seattle area when I was a kid and when lacrosse in Seattle was still in its infancy. So, needless-to-say, I did not grow up in a lacrosse hotbed and that is what made Saturday so special. I learned the game from the transplants as an adult. I know all of the transplants from back East were trying to figure out what all the ruckus was about this past Saturday. I will tell you what it was about. I didn’t have to talk my wife into letting me travel across the country for a DI lacrosse game. I didn’t have to make plane and hotel reservations months in advance and fret over the costs.
The day is almost here, Saturday October 13th and for many of us it is truly an exciting day. Hopefully for all of the youngsters out there it is a sign of the times and the first of many such events. There is actually a Division I Men’s College lacrosse game happening in Seattle. If you are involved in the lacrosse scene, you have had this day circled on the calendar all summer. If you are new to lacrosse, let it be known that this is a big deal. The University of Denver will play host to the University of Maryland at Starfire Sports Campus in Tukwila this Saturday. This is going to be good!
