Game Preview: Eastlake vs Skyline
Game preview – Eastlake vs Skyline – Thursday, April 17th – 8pm @ Skyline High School, Sammamish. With campuses just one mile apart, Eastlake and Skyline will clash this Thursday not just for the pride of victory, but also potentially for a playoff seed.
Skyline is fresh off a spring break trip to Baltimore, which has been described in depth in a previous walax.com article. According to Skyline players and coaches alike, the trip moved them forward, and really helped them see, experience, and understand a higher level of play. With underclassmen stepping up, and strong team performances in recent memory, the Spartans should be a force to be reckoned with on Thursday.
Eastlake had a trip of their own. Coach O’Dougherty and the Wolves headed down to the Vancouver area they took on three teams – King’s Way, Camas, and Beaverton - winning each. Eastlake’s defensive performance has been solid all year and is continually improving. Senior midfielder Chase Barlow has paced the scoring for the Wolves, with 14 goals on the season. His production will need to continue, and the rest of the team will need to do their part in order for them to win. Eastlake has not lost in April. Can Eastlake continue their winning ways?
This game has big playoff implications – The DI-KingCo Conference is given 5 seeds in the first round. While the top three seeds seem to belong to Issaquah, Mercer Island, and Bellevue, the race for the 4th and 5th seeds in the conference is very tight. Eastlake, Skyline, Lake Washington, and Bothell-Inglemoor all have a shot at the 5th spot. The winner of this game will likely punch their ticket to the playoffs as the 4th seed.
Good luck to both teams in what promises to be a great contest!
