WALAX Boys High School Lacrosse Ranking - Week 5
While the season slowed down for a good number of teams around the state that took their spring breaks off, other teams hit the road to gage their rosters against outside talent. At this point in the season, only one undefeated team remains, 8-0 Gig Harbor. Outside of the Top 4, our Division 1 rankings is experiencing a minor shift whole the Division 2 list has seen quite the shakeup. Only one week out from May, the last month of the regular season, we are starting to get a clear picture of where teams are falling in line.
Division I
#1 Bellevue (9-2)
#2 Mercer Island (10-3)
#3 Woodinville (9-5)
#4 Issaquah (9-4)
#5 Eastside Catholic (10-2)
#6 Skyline (10-4)
#7 Bainbridge (10-2)
#8 Stanwood (9-1)
#9 Gig Harbor (8-0)
#10 Eastlake (8-5)
On Wednesday #4 Issaquah jumped out to a 6-1 lead over #1 Bellevue that was cut short by lightening. The final result of the game, when it’s completed, could start to shake things up from the top down. Without a finished game, we can’t take the match into consideration for moving teams around just yet.
After losing to #1 Bellevue by a substantial margin in the early weeks of the season, #3 Woodinville has bounced back with four conference wins and no more losses against in-state teams. #2 Mercer Island will stay on the doorstep of the top spot and can use their coming games against the #1, #3 and #4 teams to make their case for claiming the high seed.
On Tuesday, #5 Eastside Catholic bumped off #7 Bainbridge, 13-5, continuing their run past teams, with no losses on games played in the state. We will have to stay speculating about the Crusaders since they will have to wait until the playoffs to have a shot at another ranked opponent. Holding onto their claim as the only undefeated team in Washington, #9 Gig Harbor moved to 8-0 with a 17-8 win over conference-rival Bellarmine Prep. Despite an 8-5 record, #10 Eastlake rounds out the list with their only in-state losses coming to ranked opponents.
If you’re hoping to see some movement amongst the top teams, keeps your focus on #1 Bellevue at #6 Skyline and #10 Eastlake at #3 Woodinville, both on Wednesday at 8pm. #2 Mercer Island will be at #4 Issaquah on Friday at 8pm, the last of the ranked battles for the week.
Division II
#1Liberty 9-4
#2 Klahowya 9-1
#3 Vashon (5-2) 6-3
#4 White River 7-4
#5 Union 7-4
#6 Central Valley 5-4
#7 West Seattle (4-3)
#8 Seattle Academy (4-4)
#9 Gonzaga Prep 9-2
#10 Shorecrest 5-4
Teams have been going at it in Division 2, with some big wins justifying a good amount of movement in the standings. #1 Liberty will stay put, with a win over #4 White River as their only game since the last ranking. Catching up, and making a serious case for the top spot, #2 Klahowya have picked up four more wins in the meantime, with their most notable victory coming over #3 Vashon last Wednesday.
Taking over the #5 spot, Union has continued to raise some eyebrows. With a perfect 5-0 record in conference play and only losses in DII coming to #1 Liberty and #4 White River, both by the score of 8-7, the Titans have earned their climb up the ladder. #6 Central Valley will sit right on their tails, also flawless in conference play, while #7 West Seattle will start to creep in with a recent win over #8 Seattle Academy.
With only one loss to a DII team, #8 SAAS is looking strong, but a loss to #7 West Seattle bumped them down a bit while #9 Gonzaga Prep will also move lower on the list, following up a loss to #6 Central Valley with tight wins over unranked Redmond and Lewis and Clark. #10 Shorecrest will hang on to that final position, playing a Division 1 heavy schedule and proving they can hang with the bigger, more experience units. No ranked Division 2 teams will have each other until at least May 4th. By Mark Donahue
