Lake Washington vs. Juanita - Game Report

KIRKLAND - Five years ago, Kirkland lacrosse was born and launched Lake Washington High School’s lacrosse team. Just a year ago they grew big enough to split into two teams, Lake Washington and Juanita High School. This was the first time these teams met in what is bound to be a long standing rivalry.

The first quarter started with lots of turnovers and overall LW possessions. The first Goal was scored by Devin Brickzin and then followed by two goals by CJ Schuster. Quarter one ended in a shutout with LW scoring three goals and Juanita ceasing to gain a long possession. Jake Campbell scores Juanita’s first goal in the second quarter. In the first half, CJ Schuster scored 4 of LW’s 6 goals, and Connor Campbell scored 2 of Juanita’s 3.

The third quarter consisted of less goals and longer possessions. Juanita had a few long clears including one by Cade Totten in the end of the quarter. Even though the Rebel’s Goalie Brogan Bartch was feeling under the weather, he still managed to stop a series of illusive shots. Brett Kehle starts off the fourth quarter with a solo drive and dunk goal. Shortly after, Juanita scored a goal making it 9-7 with LW in the lead. Coach Hush called a stick check on former LW midfielder Connor Campbell, and after it was successfully ruled illegal, Juanita’s previous goal was taken away and they were stuck in a 3 minute man-down situation. This changed the output of the game and LW scored two goals during this man-up period. In the last two minutes of the game, LW goalie Jacob Saunderson stopped a ripping shot with his bare shin for a second time. It ended with LW gaining control of the ball and running down the last minute of the game for an 11-7 win.
