Semifinals Preview

Wednesday, May 28th at 7 PM we have a slate of two Division 1 and two Division 2 semi-final games that will not disappoint!

Eastside Catholic (17-0, 99.11) vs Bellevue (18-2, 97.73), Eastside Catholic HS

Bellevue travels to undefeated Eastside Catholic for what should be a great game. Last week, Bellevue defeated Auburn Riverside to advance. Their performance in the regular season earned them a 2nd seed, which allowed them to avoid Eastside Catholic in the quarterfinals. Now they will meet in what should be the best matchup in the semis.

Bellevue tends to play in games where neither team reaches 10 goals, but can play any style you might like; on the contrary, Eastside Catholic plays in high scoring games, and if there is a way to score, they're probably going to. This is the first meeting between the programs this season, and both are powerful. Eastside Catholic has been nothing but impressive all year, as has Bellevue. Bellevue's 18 wins have been against an impressively tough schedule, while Eastside's undefeated record has come against the 10th ranked strength of schedule. This is no black mark against their season, as anyone who has seen both teams will tell you, this is a game to watch.

Tahoma (13-5, 94.09) vs Issaquah (18-3, 97.16), Tahoma HS

We will get our other championship contender from this SPSL vs KingCo match. in Maple Valley.

Tahoma is a strong team, and has seen some very tough teams before in and out of state, including a spring break Arizona trip. They have also shown that they can play in very close games, defeating a hot Bainbridge team last week 8-7. They'll need to draw on this experience against Issaquah, a team that was good to begin with, and has seemingly improved their game every day.

Issaquah has done well against SPSL opponents, having defeated Auburn Riverside 11-3 who lost to Tahoma 9-6. If we play the comparative score game, Issaquah is still a favorite, but it's our feeling this one will probably still come down to the wire.

Division 2

Vashon (11-3, 88.01) vs Seattle Academy (11-3, 91.93), Vashon HS

The Vultures and the Cardinals have both been strong all season, and both count among their successes a number of upsets against division 1 teams. Seattle Academy was only 3 goals behind Bainbridge in the regular season and defeated Sehome-Bellingham. Vashon defeated division 1 playoff contender Emerald Ridge-Puyallup by 1, and lost to Curtis by only a goal.

Seattle Academy leaned heavily on Riley Johnson's 7 points in their win vs Liberty, and has seen strong performances by Parker Woo and David Funes all year. Vashon showed a lot of resolve last week, beating Camas after going down 6-1 in the first quarter. Winter Krimmert paced the Vultures in this game, with 4 points and 10 ground balls. Attackman and captain Griffin Jennings has also been big for the Vultures all season. Both teams will need their star power to show up, but this is definitely going to be a contest at every individual match-up as both teams feature very balanced scoring.

King's Way (11-3, 88.56) vs Overlake (8-6, 87.17), King's Way Christian

Overlake has been quite a story this postseason. Not expected to do that much come playoff time, they have rattled off 2 upsets in a row over Wenatchee and Shorecrest to reach the semis. They'll travel south to Vancouver to see if they can keep things rolling.

King's Way is the top of their league, and have only lost three times. A program that was split last year, they have not been victims of expansion. By all rights, an 11 win team should definitely be considered the favorite here. We will see whether the Owls' stronger schedule has prepared them to take on the Knights. Fans of the game in and around Vancouver should definitely check this one out as it promises to be an absolutely great matchup!
