Spring is in the air, and the first games of the season have been played! We already have some exciting matchups approaching in the Division II landscape, but before we fully delve into the season, let’s take a look at how the teams are shaping up!
Division II Preview:
(Previews are listed in alphabetical order within each conference.)
CENTRAL SOUTH PREVIEW:
Camas
Coming off a successful 6-2 intra-conference record, Camas returns top scorer and All-Conference attackman Austin Garwood (23g, 10a), as well as All-Conference pole, Will Young. With 12 seniors on their 2015 squad, Camas will look to take advantage of their depth and experience heading into the new season.
Columbia River
Columbia River, known as Kings Way in past years, enters the season with 3 players on last years All-American team. Senior midfielder Brian Prigmore (20g, 24a) will aim to lead a strong Columbia River offense that put up 167 goals a season ago. On defense, the team is bolstered by pole Brandon Pearl, and All-Conference keeper Conrad Littlefield (69% save). With a strong team returning in 2015, Columbia River will look to repeat as Central South Conference champions.
Richland
Finishing off 2014 with a 2-12 record is not what Richland had in mind coming into the season. Fortunately, Richland has one of the youngest teams in the state, graduating just two last season. The team returns their three top-scorers, including Vincent Sliva (13g, 4a), and on the other end, junior goalie Grady Salaman (58% save). With a young squad, Richland will look to grab some more W’s in 2015.
Selah
After finishing 2014 with an 0-4 record, Selah enters the new season with a young squad. They’ll aim to develop their players as they seek some success in the coming seasons.
Southridge
An under-the-radar team, Southridge graduated just 2 players off their 2014 squad, but return senior All-Conference midfielder, Mario Midili (25g, 11a). In addition, junior keeper Graham Mix (50% save) will be back in cage for Southridge in 2015. In a competitive Central South Conference, Southridge will look to move up the ranks in the new season.
Union
Finishing 2014 with a 5-7 record, Union allowed just 97 goals on the season - the second least in the Central South Conference. This strong defensive play was anchored by All-Conference pole Jack Lamey, who will be returning for the team in 2015. On offense, the team will look to senior All-Conference midfielder Trey Chambers (16g, 15a) to lead an already solid Union offense in ‘15.
EASTERN CONFERENCE –
Central Valley
After a solid 6-5 2014 season, Central Valley enters the new-year with a particularly young squad. The team returns All-Conference midfielder Jack Clary (12g, 3a), and sophomore keeper, Jacob Phelps (57% save) – both key players who will aim to lead a potential filled Central Valley team to an Eastern Conference title in 2015.
Gonzaga Prep
Gonzaga Prep wrapped up their 2014 campaign with a 5-4 record, allowing just 53 goals on the season – a conference low. On the flip-side, the team returns both All-Conference attack-man Ashton Atwood (10g, 1a), and All-Conference midfielder Jon Yake. After graduating just 5 seniors a season ago, Gonzaga Prep will look to take advantage of their youth and take the #1 spot in the Eastern Conference.
Lewis & Clark
A 1-7 2014 season is not what Lewis & Clark had in mind. Fortunately the team can look forward to the return of quick All-Conference attackman Nate Hucke (11g, 3a). Lewis & Clark graduated only 2 players from last seasons’ squad, meaning that the team is filled with young potential.
Mt. Spokane
Mt. Spokane allowed a conference high, 106 goals last season. With the return of all the squad’s 2014 d-poles, the team will look to correct the ship on defense. On offense, Mt. Spokane will look to senior middie, Mason Jones (16g, 2a) to lead the team to some success in 2015.
Wenatchee
2014’s Eastern Conference Champions, Wenatchee, returns all three of their top scorers from last season. All-Conference midfielders Cory Leenders (19g, 7a) and Adam Chvilicek (14g, 5a) will look to lead an offense that put up 175 goals a season ago – the most in Division II. With a particularly young team coming into 2015, Wenatchee is in prime position to make a deep run in the playoffs.
KINGCO CONFERENCE –
Inglemoor
Junior AJ Peacocke (12g, 11a) will look to lead an Inglemoor team that finished 9-7 a season ago. Though the team is young, Inglemoor has a great chance to come up with some success in the KingCo Conference in 2015.
Juanita
Though it’s Juanita’s first season in the league, they bring with them TONS of experience from an always competitive Lake Washington squad. 1st Team All-Conference midfielder Jason McLean (18g, 14a), and 2nd Team All-Conference middie Connor Campbell (26g, 3a) will take the field for Juanita in 2015, along with junior keeper Brogan Bartch (46% save). Look for Juanita to make a run at the #1 spot in the KingCo Conference this season.
Lake Washington
The Kangs finished up the 2014 season with a 12-7 record, putting up 187 goals in the process. With the addition of Juanita to the league, Lake Washington lost quite a bit of talent. Fortunately, the team returns senior pole Spencer Mueller on defense. With a young squad, The Kangs will look to find their new identity in 2015.
Liberty
Liberty returns senior attackman Nate Jarvis (13g, 1a) – one of two players on Liberty’s 2014 squad that put up double-digit goals. With a young offense in 2015, the team will look to their defense to bear down in order to open up opportunities on attack.
Redmond
Redmond returns to action in 2015, after taking 2014 off. They open up play against a new Ingraham squad to start off the new season.
METRO CONFERENCE –
Franklin
Franklin enters the 2015 season having gone winless in 2014. Fortunately, Franklin always wields a deep roster, and will look to use that depth to their advantage in 2015.
Garfield
The Bulldogs are back after sitting the 2014 season out. With only 2 seniors on the roster, Garfield will try to make a statement early in the new season.
Nathan Hale
Nathan Hale finished 4-7 in 2014, scoring just 72 goals on the season. The Raiders enter 2015 with a young squad, but a big roster. The team will look to their defense, specifically sophomore keeper Keaton Austin (48% save) to bolster the team in the new season.
Overlake
The Owls return their 2nd and 3rd top scorers from a squad a season ago that finished 6-6 on the season. Chris Castle (13g, 4a) and Ian Klimisch (11g, 3a) will look to lead an Overlake offense in 2015 that put up a steady 81 goals a season ago. On defense, the team will aim to bring back the aggressiveness from 2014, returning all 8 of their poles, and their goalie, Parker Hayne (51% save).
Providence
Providence joins the Metro Conference in 2015, after spending the 2014 season in the Wesco Conference. They return all four of their top scorers from a season ago, including 2nd Team All-Conference midfielder Matthew Morris (23g, 12a). On the flip side, the defense is anchored by talented pole Paul Johnson, and goalie Jackson Morris (47% save). Providence’s roster is full of fire-power; look for them to have some early success in the Metro Conference in 2015.
West Seattle
After taking a year off from Varsity play, West Seattle returns in 2015 with a young, but experienced squad. While the Metro Conference is one of the toughest in the state, West Seattle may be able to stay competitive throughout the season.
OLYMPIC CONFERENCE –
Klahowya
Klahowya is a team full of offensive firepower. Having put up 139 goals a season ago – the most in the Olympic Conference, the team returns their #2, #3 & #4 scorers, including 1st Team All-Conference attackman Joe Hawley (18g, 44a), a junior who’s field awareness is one of the best in the state. If Klahowya can continue it’s offensive excellence, they should a have a good chance of claiming the #1 spot in the Conference at the end of the season.
North Kitsap
North Kitsap ended the 2014 season with a 1-11 record. Although it is not what the team had hoped for, they return their 3-top scorers - including junior Kellson Arthurs (24g, 5a), in 2015.
Port Angeles
Losing their top scorer from a season, Port Angeles will turn to Connor Leslie (10g, 7a) and Michael Walton (10g, 3a) to lead the offense in 2015 – one that put up just 73 goals last season.
South Kitsap
Having gone winless a season ago, South Kitsap can’t go anywhere but up. The team returns top-scorer Alex Scott (12g, 2a) as they look to put up a couple W’s in 2015.
Vashon
Vashon went 11-3 on their way to claiming the title of ‘Conference Champions’ a season ago. The team returns 1st Team All-Conference midfielder Ezra Ende (20g, 5a) and Winter Krimmert (22g, 7a) as they look to continue right where they left off in 2014. With another solid roster, look for Vashon to make a competitive push come playoff time.
SPSL CONFERENCE -
Peninsula
The team returns captain Bryce Wilder (23g, 7a) in 2015 as they make the transition to a competitive SPSL Conference. Peninsula will turn to their defense to make some key stops in order to open up opportunities on the offensive side of the field.
Auburn Riverside
Auburn Riverside was absolutely STACKED on offense last season, with 10 players racking up double-digit goals on the season, and 8 players walking away with All-Conference honors. But, with the addition of Sumner to league, the team will suffer the loss of 1st Team All-Conference keeper Jaron Scarbrough (56% save), and sophomore attackman Quinault Mackey (31g, 13a). Expect to see senior Kolten Rosin (18g, 5a) step up for a young Auburn Riverside squad in 2015.
Bethel
Bethel makes it debut in the SPSL Conference in 2015. With a young roster that’s highlighted by just 1 senior, the team will look to find its identity early in a tough conference.
Bonney Lake
Bonney Lake is another team who will make their debut in 2015. Unlike most other teams though, Bonney Lake comes in with 0 seniors on the field, guaranteeing extra time for team chemistry.
Sumner
It’s Sumner’s first year in the league, but they enter with former Auburn Riverside standouts, 1st Team All-Conference keeper Jaron Scarbrough (56% save), and sophomore attackman Quinault Mackey (31g, 13a). Look for Sumner to have some early success as a club in 2015.
White River
White River is the 4th team in the SPSL making it’s debut in 2015, carrying with them experienced players from a 2014 Auburn Riverside squad. The team will look to use this experience to their advantage this season.
WESCO/NW CONFERENCE –
Archbishop-Murphy
The Wildcats enter their first season with just one senior on the roster. With a young team, Archbishop-Murphy will look to find their identity in 2015.
Burlington-Edison
With young conference opponents, now is the perfect time for Burlington-Edison to stir up some wins. The team returns attack-man Connor McCandless (10g, 1a) and keeper Richard Fowler in 2015 as they look to make a little noise in the Wesco Conference.
Friday Harbor
Friday Harbor is ready to go for the 2015 season after sitting out of Varsity play in ’14. They begin their campaign against a young Monroe team to start off the season.
Lynden
After finishing up the 2014 season with a 3-8 record, Lynden looks to right the ship as they return top scorer Derron Dunnigan (12g) in 2015. In addition, look for junior goalie Jake Kildall (41% save) to head-up the defense for Lynden this season.
Meadowdale
Meadowdale features a dangerous offense heading into the season after putting up a solid 123 goals a season ago – the second most in the Wesco Conference. Look for senior Charlie Baillargeon (25g, 7a) to lead the Meadowdale O in 2015.
Monroe
Dillon Bull (23g, 2a) looks to lead a deep Monroe team in 2015, after a dismal 1-10 record a season ago. The team’s experience should help garner some wins in 2015 as they aim to for a Top-3 spot in the conference.
Now that we’ve gotten a quick preview of the teams - Division I and II, it’s time to turn our heads to the actual games! Let the mayhem begin!
