WALAX Boys High School Lacrosse Ranking - Week 3
The season is still young, but at this point our top programs are anywhere from five to nine games deep into 2016. A few major conference match-ups are already in our wake and the field is starting to shape up as we rolling into the first full month of lacrosse. Again, we’ll start by reflecting on the Top 10 in Division I, featuring three undefeated squads that will be put to the test in the coming weeks.
Division I
1. Bellevue (6-0)
2. Mercer Island (5-0)
3. Woodinville (6-3)
4. Issaquah (5-3)
5. Eastside Catholic (5-1)
6. Bainbridge (7-1)
7. Skyline (5-2)
8. Stanwood (5-1)
9. Gig Harbor (6-0)
10. Peninsula (4-1)
It’s hard to justify very much movement in the rankings as the top teams in the state continue to collect quality wins. This week we welcome South Sound leaders #9 Gig Harbor to the Top 10, now sporting an impressive 6-0 record from outscoring their opponents 90-27. Although they’re new to the list, they leapfrog Peninsula after the Seahawks were handed their first loss by Tahoma. #1 Bellevue and #2 Mercer Island cruised through last weekend’s Northwest Invitational with convincing wins, holding onto to the top spots with flawless records.
#3 Woodinville suffered a couple of tough losses over the weekend to two of the top programs in Nevada, but it didn’t weigh much on their current standing, having wins over #4 Issaquah and #7 Skyline already under their belts. With the current rankings, #5 Eastside Catholic won’t meet another ranked opponent until the post-season, making a case for climbing the ladder extremely tough unless they continue to blow the doors of their competition.
Looking forward, the big in-state game of the week will be #7 Skyline’s visit to #2 Mercer Island on Friday at 6 pm. #1 Bellevue heads to New York and New Jersey for a road test while #3 Woodinville takes their spring break to Colorado. #4 Issaquah will host DII #10 Central Valley before taking off to North Carolina the following week.
Division II
1. Liberty (7-2)
2. Vashon (5-1)
3. Klahowya (4-1)
4. Gonzaga Prep (5-0)
5. Seattle Academy (3-1)
6. Shorecrest (4-1)
7. Richland (5-1)
8. Overlake (2-1)
9. White River (4-1)
10. Central Valley (3-1)
The Division II standings didn’t see much change either, with #1 Liberty continuing to play as a program ready to move up, both #2 Vashon and #3 Klahowya only losing to ranked DI opponents, and the rest of the group continuing to win the games that they should. With only a few weeks gone, it’s hard to believe that the entire division only has two undefeated programs left. #4 Gonzaga Prep is handling their business out east while unranked Archbishop Murphy has only competed in one game by this point.
Keep your eye on #1 Liberty when they host DI #7 Skyline on Wednesday, it could be the upset the Spartans aren’t ready for. #10 has back-to-back games with #1 Liberty and DI #4 Issaquah that will really put their guys to the test in the next week. Wednesday at 6:30, DI #10 Gig Harbor takes the ferry to #2 Vashon in what could be one of the best local games we will see in the coming weeks. #3 Klahowya won’t be tested by a ranked opponent until they stare down #2 Vashon on April 20th.
