Eastside Catholic vs. Corner Canyon (UT) - Game Report

BOISE - Eastside Catholic versus the Corner Canyon Chargers proved to be every bit of the hype it was promised. With Eastside coming in preseason as an 8th in the West ranked team, the Chargers knew it would be a challenge. The challenge was accepted and answered with a final score of 9-5. The game was tallied to be a very good match for both teams; comparable in all aspects of offense, defense and face-off. The Chargers had 6 games on the season under their belt, compared to Eastside who was opening their season with this game.

Upon the opening whistle the Chargers won the face-off and took it down for an opening shot, that missed. Though continual possession was had, the Chargers could not manage to find the net effectively. Eastside's defense held strong and ultimately turned the ball over resulting in a fastbreak that was the goal to open the game. From there, the game went back and forth with both teams scoring goals to end the first quarter at 3-2 in Corner's favor. The second quarter was dominated at the face-off X with Corner Canyon owning possession for 8 minutes; during that time they successfully hung another 3 goals. In the final 2 minutes the Chargers were man-down and let in a goal from a very talented Eastside midfielder. As the game progressed the same story rung true. Corner and Eastside fought back and forth, with Corner being a man down for a lot of the half. Eastside Catholic took advantage of their opportunities and made sure to keep a very close game. Ultimately Corner proved to be too aggressive on defense and likewise too efficient on offense. The final quarter saw several goals hung by the Chargers, and a hard stand resulting in few let in by the Chargers.

Ultimately this game kicked off a great weekend in Idaho for their annual tournament, and saw the Chargers go 3-0 against Fort Collins, and Palo Verde.
