Eastside Catholic vs. Claremont (BC) - Game Report

MERCER ISLAND – Ryan Grazco and Zack Steffins combined for 9 goals for the Eastside Catholic Crusaders, on the way to a 14-8 victory over Claremont (Canada), Saturday afternoon at the Northwest Invitational!

Zack Steffins got things started for the Crusaders with a top-shelf rip coming around the crease, less than 4 minutes into the game, but it was an efficient Claremont offense that stole the show in the 1st, putting up 4 goals, including a nice inside finish from Ben Preston off a well-executed weave play.

In the 2nd, things started to heat up for Eastside Catholic, with the Crusaders’ D shutting out a potent Claremont offense. On the flip side, Eastside Catholic put up 3 more goals of their own, including a buzzer-beater goal by Ryan Grazko off an inbound pass – 1 of his 5 on the game, to end the half. Heading into the 3rd, the Crusaders lead 5-4.

The 3rd and 4th weren’t much different as Eastside Catholic found their groove and stuck to it, putting up 3 goals in the 3rd quarter, and another 6 in the 4th, including 3 straight from the sophomore attack-man, Ryan Grazko.

The Claremont D won the aggressive-play battle throughout the game making it difficult for the Crusaders to find their pace at certain points, but junior keeper Josh Matte was zoned in, making multiple point-blank saves, and recording an impressive 56% save for Eastside Catholic.

Eastside Catholic (5-1) heads to Bainbridge Island (2-1) to face-off against the Spartans on April 14th.
