The Sunday Stroll - Playoff Brackets

Division 1: This week, the regular season reached its official end, and the playoffs approach! KingCo final conference standings are settled once and for all. Mercer Island, Bellevue, and Issaquah finished with equal records, but Issaquah, definitely the least touted of the three pre-season, will finish first. Determined by head-to-head results and some statistical tiebreakers, Bellevue follows in second, and Mercer Island in third. Fourth and fifth still belong to Skyline and Lake Washington respectively. Congratulations to Bellevue and Issaquah for earning a first-round bye!

Congratulations are also due to Eastside Catholic, who finished 1st in the D-I Metro conference, posting an undefeated regular season in the process. Loaded on offense, and also very strong on defense, they look poised to do big things in the postseason. They will face the winner of Mercer Island and Seattle Prep after their first round bye.

Last week, Tahoma came out ahead on Auburn Riverside 9-6. A great win for them in a rivalry game, this also solidified them as the first seed in the SPSL, and earned them the last first-round bye.

The final determination of conference standings means all seeds are set for the playoffs.

Division 2 – playoffs continue…

The Eastern conference has already been eliminated from the playoffs. This is the result of the biggest upset in the D-II playoffs so far, with Overlake defeating Wenatchee. Gonzaga Prep, for their part, made a strong run late in the season, playing in to the tournament by defeating University-CV for a 2nd time this season. Unfortunately, they ran out of steam against a strong Camas team. Camas will face Vashon in the next round, and Overlake will face Shorecrest.

Liberty and Klahowya advanced, in the process eliminating 2 of the 3 qualifying teams from the Wesco/NW conference, Shorecrest being the sole Wesco/NW survivor. Liberty advanced with a win over Stanwood. Next they will face Seattle Academy, the best of the Metro. Klahowya defeated Meadowdale and will travel south to Vancouver to play a strong King’s Way squad.

Best upcoming matchups

D-I:

5/20: Emerald Ridge-Puyallup @ Sehome-Bellingham: The third best from a very competitive conference, against the runaway best from a less competitive one

5/20: Skyline @ Bainbridge: This should be a very hard fought game and interesting matchup strategically

5/22: TBD (Seattle Prep / Mercer Island) @ Eastside Catholic: Eastside Catholic comes to the playoffs untarnished, will meet a tough matchup right away in this round.

D-II:

5/24: Camas @ Vashon: Vashon has earned their first seed, and will meet Camas, a team who has been solid all year, at home.

5/24: Liberty @ Seattle Academy: Liberty played their way in but this week will travel and face a team implicated in many Division 1 upsets

5/24: Klahowya @ King's Way: Klahowya has quietly been good this season. King's Way earned a bye in a pretty competitive conference this year. Should be a great matchup!
