WHSBLA - Divisional Ranking Update

Nearly a quarter of the way through the season already and we’ve had a lot of great games played by real competitors. Here are the current top five teams based upon 4A, 3A, 1A/2A and PV school divisions.

1A/2A Division - Top Five

1. Seattle Academy (Metro) 4-0, 4-1 overall - Cardinals have allowed just 16 goals in 5 games and lone loss is to 3A Metro foe, Lakeside.

2. Bellingham (Northwest) 2-0, 4-1 overall - beaten common Northwest rivals by more than Archbishop Murphy while holding an out of conference win over a KingCo 4A school in Inglemoor.

3. Archbishop Murphy (Northwest) 4-0, 4-0 overall - Wildcats unbeaten but need a signature win to truly stake their claim to a Top 5 ranking.

4. Vashon (Olympic) 2-0, 2-0 overall - Vashon dispatched last year's biggest rival Klahowya in emphatic fashion, won't know much until playoff time though as they have no out of conference games.

5. Liberty (KingCo) 2-0, 3-2 overall - kudos to the Patriots for stepping up and playing a tough non-league schedule early to prep them for KingCo play. They have yet to face a 1A/2A opponent and won't until 4/18, but their three straight overtime wins against 4A opponents mark them for consideration.

3A Division - Top Five

1. Bellevue (KingCo) 4-0, 4-0 overall - all four wins over 4A KingCo foes including 15-2 statement win over Issaquah.

2. Stanwood (WesCo) 4-0, 4-0 overall - knocked off last year's toughest obstacle Kamiak in relative easy fashion while averaging over 12 goals per game.

3. Bainbridge (Metro) 2-1, 3-2 overall - early season win over Mercer Island under their belt while losses are to Private #1 Eastside Catholic and out of state to Rocky Mountain of Idaho.

4. Mercer Island (KingCo) 2-1, 4-2 overall - no signature win yet, but only losses are to 4A #1 Skyline and Bainbridge, ranked just ahead of them.

5. Bonney Lake (Pierce County) 4-0, 4-1 overall - unbeaten in conference play with a first ever win over White River.

4A Division - Top Five

1. Skyline (KingCo) 3-1, 3-1 overall - statement win over Mercer Island while Spartans played 3A #1 Bellevue to a two goal game.

2. Woodinville (KingCo) 1-1, 2-1 overall - yet to truly see too much from the Falcons but holding Bellevue to a season low 7 goals says something.

3. Tahoma (Puget Sound) 4-0, 4-1 overall - put up an average of 18.5 goals in four conference wins to open season, one loss to better than advertised Private #1 in Eastside Catholic.

4. Central Valley (Greater Spokane) 3-0, 3-0 overall - yet to be tested but Bears have scored more than 20 goals twice already and beat up on last year biggest test, Gonzaga Prep, by 15 goals.

5. Jackson (WesCo) 3-1, 4-2 overall - Monroe caught Jackson off guard to open the season but odd scheduling allowed Jackson to already get revenge for that one goal loss.

Private School Division - Top Four

1. Eastside Catholic 4-0, 5-0 overall - clear #1 with wins over closest contenders (O'Dea and Seattle Prep) and a statement non-league win over 4A Tahoma.

2. O'Dea 2-2, 2-2 overall - one goal win over Seattle Prep has them at #2, played Bainbridge to a one goal loss.

3. Seattle Prep 2-2, 2-2 overall - in the mix with one goal loss to O'Dea.

4. Gonzaga Prep 2-1, 2-1 overall - game against Central Valley may have been more telling than first two wins.

The top three teams in this division will have a play-off berth and Eastside Catholic has been dominating across the board. After their season opener with O’Dea, they have only allowed an average of 5 goals-against per game, including non-league games. The remaining ranks are very much up in the air as this season is still young.

Each division will compete in their own championship bracket this year marking a major change from past state tournaments. More teams will be able to participate in the brackets now that there will be four state championships instead of two. The competition is going to get heavy as these teams duke it out in a fight to the top.
