"WA Love" - Play For A Cause (weekend recap)

Thanks to all 18 teams who rallied for the first edition of the WA – Love “Play for a Cause” Jamboree held at Robinswood Park this past weekend. All but two games managed to avoid the rain and we even had some sunshine on Sunday morning. The kids had a blast as teams from Lake Tapps, Tahoma, Bellevue, Lake Washington, Newport (NSI), Woodinville, Bainbridge Island, Mercer Island and Skyline joined in the festivities in three different age divisions. Each team played two games, as the high school teams played their games on Saturday and the youth took over both fields on Sunday. A big thank you also goes out to WALOA (referees) and Children’s Hospital for donating their time to this first time event.

This year’s jamboree was a fundraiser which raised approximately $5,000 for the family of former firefighter Joe Kane, who passed away this past summer in a whitewater rafting accident. For those of you who didn't know Joe, he grew up on Bainbridge Island and played lacrosse at Western Washington University, as well as for several local mens club teams. Joe was a Seattle firefighter in his day job, and a youth lacrosse coach on the peninsula on his days off.
