Snohomish vs. Meadowdale - Game Report

LYNNWOOD –A 9-goal first half and stellar defense in the second from Snohomish was the difference in this Wesco Conference matchup, as the Panthers walked away with the 13-6 victory over Meadowdale, on a sunny, Friday afternoon at Meadowdale High School.

A Snohomish team that has scored 118 goals all year, had no problem scoring in this bout. Sophomore Ian O'Hern wasted no time getting in on the action, capitalizing first on a fast-break feed from long-pole Nolan Harris for a crease finish, and then minutes later, receiving a feed from the driving attackman Elliott McIntyre for an inside dump.

Captain Thomas Kobuke stopped the bleeding for Meadowdale, putting away one of his two goals on the evening with a rip driving from behind the cage midway through the first quarter.

The Panthers would score 2 more to finish out the quarter, and then another quick 2 at the beginning of the second, including a jump shot goal off a left to right split dodge from Alex Wartes to widen the Snohomish lead. Meadowdale would get one back off a one-touch finish again from the striking Thomas Kobuke to close the gap.

Aggressive defensive play in the second half from the Snohomish poles would prove to much for the Meadowdale offense, allowing just 1 goal total in the final 24 minutes. Shots that the Mavericks were able to get off were swallowed up by Panther’s keeper Cade Lichfield.

Snohomish would score another 4 goals to finish out the game, including a man-up rip from the senior, Miles Russon, to hype up the Panther’s sideline. In the end, quick ball movement and effective feeds inside served Snohomish well, earning them their 7th win of the season - a convincing 13-6 one over the Meadowdale Mavericks.

The loss was Meadowdale’s 6th of the season, but the Mavericks still see themselves at the top of the Wesco Conference Division II standings. A non-league matchup next with a surging Klahowya team will be a good test for Meadowdale as we approach playoff time. On the flip-side, Snohomish may have just played their last game of the season - sitting at 6-4 in conference play, 3 games behind the leader, Sehome-Bellingham.
