Committed Player Profile: Dar Sleeper - Kennedy Catholic

Every week this fall and winter, Walax.com will be profiling local NCAA committed lacrosse players and asking them different questions about their experience with the recruiting process, choosing the right school (i.e. size, location, academics, cost, competitive level, etc.) and what they think about the upcoming high school season. Stay tuned!

Player: Dar Sleeper
School: Kennedy Catholic
Position: Midfield
College Choice: United States Military Academy (West Point)

Walax: Why did you choose West Point?
DS: Ultimately it came down to what school offered the best academics and gave me the opportunity to serve my country. also the fact that they have one of the top lacrosse programs in the country helped me make my decision.

Walax: Other colleges considered?
DS: Navy, Yale, Brown, Delaware, Rutgers, Furman, Tufts, Middlebury

Walax: What're your thoughts on the upcoming 2016 season?
DS: Always excited to play lacrosse. That being said we (Lancers) have a lot of room for improvement, we have all the pieces... Now we just need to put them together. On that note you can expect big things from the Lancers!

Walax: What have been the best and worst things about the recruiting process?
DS: Best - Just getting the opportunity to step on to the campus' of some of the most prestigious institutions in the country let alone attend one of them has just been a blessing. Worst - BY FAR the worst thing about the process is the incredible amount of stress it puts on kids as young as 13 years old to make a decision of what college to attend when they are still just figuring out the ropes of high school.

Coaches Quote: Brett Bowker, co-head varsity coach Kennedy Catholic - "Dar is a integral part of Kennedy Catholic lacrosse. He is a leader on the field with his game play and commitment to the game. Over the previous season he displayed maturity, toughness, and a selfless team centered attitude that are pivotal to any team, especially to one as storied as the Black Knights. He is incredibly humbled by the commitment and understands the hard work, focus and discipline needed to make the transition into the D1 collegiate game. In addition, he is honored by the opportunity to serve in the U.S. Army. Any team would be thrilled to have a person and player such as Dar Sleeper on their team and I'm glad he made a great decision committing to West Point."
