Centennial (NV) vs. Sunset (OR) - Game Report

MERCER ISLAND – A big second quarter from the Sunset (OR) offense was enough for the Apollos to walk away with a 15-8 win over Centennial (NV), Sunday afternoon at the Northwest Invitational.

Centennial took advantage of their fast-break opportunities in this game, with Triston Carden and midfielder Jacob Austin burying 2 in the first quarter to even the score at 2-2 heading into the 2nd.

The Sunset offense broke out in the 2nd quarter putting away 6 goals as they began to pull away from the Bulldogs. Jacob Leonard began the quarter, finishing a quick cross-crease pass from #29 to put Sunset up 3-2. Late in the quarter, midfielder Tillman Gallagher had a rip of his own from the top of the box that begin a 10-goal run for the Apollos.

Sunset keeper saw the ball well in this one, shutting down the Bulldog shooters in the 3rd quarter, and allowing just 3 in the fourth. Centennial’s Andre Meieres would run it straight through the Sunset defense for quick bouncer late in the 4th, but it was too late as the Apollos big run and sturdy defensive play overwhelmed the Bulldogs in the second half, finishing with a 2-2 record on the weekend.
