final 4
the final four will come down to
1) UVA
2) Hofstra
3) Cornell
4) Maryland
Their are a lot of different teams that can fight for that fourth spot. As of now i would give it to Maryland but they will have to earn it
Final Four
Maryland, UVa, Princeton, Hofstra
FF
Wahoo's, Big Red, Pride, and Tigers.
Uva: unstoppable.
Cornell: first time since the 70's under Moran when upstates finest can make a run for the title.
Hofstra: (Long Island CC): Tough D with Moyer and enough Strong Island kids to finally break through. Just a thought...what if Danowski's kid stayed home at Hosftra instead of being mixed up in the Duke situation?
Princeton: Ranked low, but under Coach T will always have a shot. Tough D and offense with the ability to slow down a game Pton speed.
Who is out: Maryland will blow it, Duke already blew it, Jay's lost too much, Hoyas dont have enough offense, 'Cuse not even Desko can salvage the season.
Re: FF
Funny, looks like three out of your four bit the dust, so to speak, redlyon.
Maryland, UMass, and the Orangemen all have incredibly strong programs; I'm suprised you counted them out so easily.
Desko especially. His previous success wasn't through Powell-like players who lit up the field, it was from his coaching ability. Top coaches make top teams, eh?
Final Four
I think it is still too early too tell. But, I think the contenders are probably:
Maryland (2-0) - Early 8-7 overtime win against Duke (3-1) shows that they have the ability to beat the top teams. Look for Maryland to make the final four. I would bet my money on it.
Virginia (5-0) - They started off the season strong. An early 13-7 win against top 20 team Denver (3-1) shows that they're legit. Couple this with their recent 20-15 win over Syracuse, and you can see that this team may very well deserve the #1 spot. Maryland should look out. They face Duke, Princeton, JHU, and Maryland later in the season, I think those games should be true indicators of what type of team Virginia really is.
Duke (3-1) - Look for Duke to come back after the gut-wrenching loss in the NCAA finals last year. After beating their first three opponents by an average of 14.3 goals per game, Duke suffered a tough overtime loss to Maryland. Look for this team to make a run late in the season. Another true test will be late in the season vs. Virginia.
Navy (3-0) - This team looks solid, but has not really been tested yet. Without a game against a top 25 team, its too early to tell if Navy really has the depth to make the final four.
Princeton (2-0) - A solid win against JHU shows that they can beat the defending champs. Though JHU is not as strong as they were last year, any team that can beat them should still not be overlooked.
Johns Hopkins (1-1) - Johns Hopkins, previously ranked #1 seems to always have what it takes to get through the NCAA tourney. Pietramala always seems to make it work. Although they suffered a tough loss to Princeton, it would be foolish to count the Blue Jays out of the Final Four.
Syracuse, Georgetown (both 1-1) - Althought these teams arent among the ranks of the previously listed squads, they do have potential. Ranked 7 and 10 respectively, these are the teams that could look to upset the big dogs near the end of the season, or in the NCAA tourney.
Count Johns Hopkins out...
Count Johns Hopkins out... the loss of Harrison and Irwin will be too much to overcome when they take on Syracuse, Virginia, Duke, Duke, Maryland, and Navy. I dont see Greg Peyser and Kevin Huntley really leading this team against Matt Russells antics and Virginia's extremly aggressive D. The real team to look for this year is Cuze.. who with the addition of transfer Joe Yevoli from Virginia will again be the offensive powerhouse in D1!
Looked tough this weekend...
Navy wins over Bucknell after an ugly first half 9-5, and Duke beats Loyola with 9-7. Both are deminutive wins. Look out for Navy's face-off middy William Wallace who won 16 of 17 face-offs.
Maryland defeatsTowson at home
Hofstra owns Johns Hopkins 11-6
Georgetown knocks 'cuse 10-8 in a major upset
Notre Dame beats UNC 9-7
this should change the polls a little from the lax.com listing from last week...
how do you think the top 5 will look in DI and DIII?
