how do you feel about maple valley... and why

Pretty much everyone hates maple valley. So why is that?

Their JV coach looks like a

Their JV coach looks like a total joke with that mustache of his. HAHAHAHA!

you cant say that

Maple Valley is in no way hated by everyone. i have friends on that team. I don't hate em. good thread idea tho

I remember back in middle

I remember back in middle school MV was straight dirty. They would cross check you in the back and hit you with butt ends. But after anyone got caught they would stop. This year I played against them for the first time since 7th grade. I was expecting for it to be even worse. But it definitely wasn't. They didn't hit any harder or dirtier than any other team. They have definitely cleaned up since 3 years ago. And as for their field, it really is not a big deal. It's called home field advantage. Bainbridge has grass, Mercer has a crowd, and Lakeside has a hill. As long as there aren't knives or something laying on the field just go play.

You guys are wasting your time bashing on a team that shouldn't be bashed.

This thread is hilarious and

This thread is hilarious and I can't believe all of you sit here and get down on one team. These sorts of things-ie the hitting you all are complaining about- happens with every team. I remember playing against MV back in the day and I got hit just as hard by them as any other team in the league.

While I do agree there should always be field standards, the middle school they used to play at was horrible back in the day and I assume it still is from all the whining, there should not be this notion that all MV players are "thugs". This is just plain ridiculous. I have played post high school lax with a bunch of MV alum as well as helped out with camps where current MV kids were in attendence and they are just like everyone else.

I hope that no parents are posting these issues on a forum that young kids post on where nothing will get solved. If there are really true problems get involved in a civil manner and bring it up at the league meeting.

Conduct

it comes down to conduct on and off the field...meaning these forums too!

fish rots from the head

All you have to do is read the MV player responses to understand why they are disliked. They do not see any issue with their play. Obviously, they are taught that it is ok. Until the coaching attitude changes, their program won't. It is a shame too, because they do have some talent out there. If they would learn to play the game with honor, they could be real good.

mv is doo doo but you are all wrong

you all need to shut up. we play a sport where hitting is encouraged not ultimate frisbee. go play that if your feelings get hurt because someone spirit fouled you.
MI in the...

hitting is encouraged in

hitting is encouraged in this sport, but only when its necissary. im a meat-head and even i understand that

you guys are funny

I play for MV's JV team and i love how all you guys get so worked up about nothing. this is high school lacrosse i mean come on, 4 years max and youll never hear about it again. and for all of those people that think MV is a "hick town" that we have farms and what not. ive lived here for 8 years i have yet to see a farm. i dont know anybody who even has a farm. im just as spoiled as the little rich kids who live at MI. i have nothing agaisnt any team. i only dislike people who are jerks just because your on a different team and they hear that your team is bad. everybody says that were "thugs", we have no respect for the game and so on. get over it. maple valley may hit hard. but to win a game you have to score goals. and when we win its apparently becuase we cheated in some way like it was video game and we put in a cheat code. ive been laid out more by other teams than i have laid people out. everybody who hates maple valley. chill the out. its really not that big a deal. just a bunch of sterotypes that get thrown around because people get mad when they lose or mad when they get hit and a ref doesnt see it. life isnt always fair get used to it and stop whining like a bunch of little kids.

I actually must agree. I

I actually must agree. I played MV JV team and im on MI. they were one of the hardest teams we faced and they put together a good clean game. they were the first tlented MV team ive played which shows me that when they reach Varsity, MV will have a srong team. i look forward to some new competition.

Cow Pasture

Improve your field situation. Tahoma Middle is unacceptable! It'a a cow pasture and even smells like one. You may have to pay to use more turf or find another field but it really is only 20% grass.

Poorly Coached

It all starts at the youth level. My experience for several years now and many other coaches that I have discussed this with is that the MV kids seem to be coached to be thugs. When you hear "take him out", "hit him harder" and you have coaches that get excited when pain in inflicted that is a poor coaching. Seemingly many think this game is football with sticks (this is seen in some now varsity players even). The trash talking filthy mouths can not be tolerated and inevitably more is heard at MV than at other games. Much of this likely stems from the young coaches that seem to be prevalent in the MV youth coaching staff. MV parents - STEP UP and coach, learn the game from sources outside of MV resources, set the example of no tolerance for poor behavior, and you will have better players and improve your reputation.

not true

I reffed atleast 5 of their 7/8th 5/6th games and in no way did the coaches act like this. If i would have heard that I would have stopped the game and talked to the coaches. I witnessed alot more dirty play from other teams than with the maple valley youth

hit him harder

what are we supposed to do give the kid a love tap as he runs by im pretty sure some people in your program have said the same thing

Within the rules

>>what are we supposed to do give the kid a love tap as he runs by im pretty sure some people in your program have said the same thing <<

You are not supposed to give him a love tap; you are supposed to make contact WITHIN THE RULES.

The "your programs do the same thing" is a foolish argument. If everyone did it (a child’s argument) then we would not be having this discussion.

The Rule

Here is the most common rule that MV youth players are coached to violate, both in action and in spirit.

Add this to the numerous late and other illegal hits they are regularly flagged for and you have the root of the problem.

They actually seem to take great pride in their abuse of this, and other safety rules.

Body Checking
RULE 5 SECTION 3
Body checking is permitted in Senior and Junior Divisions; however, NO TAKE-OUT CHECKS ARE PERMITTED BY ANY PLAYER. A take out check is defined as any check in which the player lowers his head or shoulder WITH THE FORCE AND INTENT TO PUT THE OTHER PLAYER ON THE GROUND.

What do I think?

They think that #77 kid is some sort of defensive Messiah, when pretty much any attackmen can just run past him.

Maple Valley

I don't know what to say. MV is always a pretty mediocre team. Kudos for making it to the playoffs this year.

Sure MV gets some players who have stick skills every now and again but those players are offset by a teammate who looks at lacrosse as spring football practice. But MV is not alone in this.

So why does the lacrosse community look down on MV? Is it a societal thing like Mercer Island inhabitants looking down at Bellevue inhabitants? You know, the idea of Maple Valley being the poor white trash of lacrosse? I am not saying I believe it is as I believe a few other programs that own that moniker but could it be that? And if it is, WHY, in the 21st century, do we think like that?

Why not hate Franklin in D2 because of the neighborhoods it draws from? Oh that would not be politically correct for spoiled white kids from the islands and the highlands to hate kids from the poorer sections of Seattle. So much easier to hate kids from a "perceived" under-priviledged area such as Maple Valley. Its the same old crap that has plagued society: haves vs have nots, haves vs have mores. Perception. That is all it is. Perception.

Of all the programs, Maple Valley has been pretty consistent, even at mediocrity, whereas many others have not been. Some teams should be looking to MV to find out what is working there and try emulate it. But for whatever reason, there is some sort of provincial thinking out there preventing them from doing so. Got news for those who are provincial in their thinking. Take a good look at who was in the D2 final. Tacoma and Puyallup.

Lacrosse is not the sport of spoiled east side kids anymore. Thank Goodness.

youknowme doesnt know anything

If you honstely think the reason people hate Maple Valley is because of some social standing thing than you have a lot of growing up to do and don't know the history of lacrosse. People tend to dislike maple valley because of the history of the program. They used to be the dirtiest players in the league. They put zip ties on their heads and their line up would even spit on opposing players that would be pushed into there bench. By no means do people dislike Maple Valley because of social heirarchy. People go off of what they here from people who played back in the day. Maple Valley isn't dirty anymore and there starting to produce legitament lacrosse players. And noone from Mercer looks down on Bellevue. Bellevue has a lot of money also yarrow bay, medina, bellevue is equally as wealthy if not more so. And buddy just because people play for a team that is populated with people with a large net worth does not mean the players are that way. And besides, you either ball or you don't.

.

you say that mv is a pretty consistent team whereas many others have not been...soo which team hasn't been consistent? Plus why are you saying lacrosse is a sport of spoiled east side kids. Have some respect for the game and their players.

mv

i agree at least we made it to the playoffs

Not Societal

My opinions, and those I have heard from others, don't come from any of that.

My thoughts come strictly from MV conduct on, and around, the field.

MV does bro out pretty hardcore.

MI in the...

Since you appear to be an MV guy (based on your posts)

I'll tell you what I think, and what I hear from others.

You have no respect for the game.
You have no respect for the rules.
You have no respect for opponents.
You have no class.
You play like thugs. Teams that play tough are respected, teams that play like thugs (MV) are not.
You act insulted when anyone points these things out, even though they are obvious to the rest of the LAX community.

While pretending you are “tough” (see your comments in the “Next Year” thread) you are really a bunch of wimps. You whined so much about a comment I made, “Maple Valley and Safety in the same sentence is an Oxymoron”, that you made WALAX pull it.

The truth hurts, way more than any fiction.

Like true wimps, you proved what Jack told us so clearly:
YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

How long before you babies make WALAX pull this one, even though it was an MV supporter who asked the question?

Showing class...

If your remark was supposed to demonstrate some kind of class that you represent, i would say you did the opposite. While Maple Valley may have a sterotype, may do some things you don't like- I hardly think that is grounds to call people babies, wimps or classless thugs. By the way, there are PLENTY of teams that thug it up at times, and some are only capable of thugging it up. "Maple Valley" includes youth teams through High School, and coaches, parents, etc. So you may want to be specific about what you are talking about exactly.

If you are going to express an opinion, best to express yours. I am sure others are much better at expressing their own opinion than you are by doing it for them. You don't speak for a community.

No class

You are right; my rant at the end was classless. I apologize for that, kind of got on an absurd roll.

I do stand behind the rest of my comments, I have talked to many people who have expressed these opinions, and in fact I've been surprised at how consistent the comments are. Many of them came from officials.

Most of my exposure to MV is through their youth programs, going back 5 years. They are apparently coached outside the rules and play that way.

um

i just became a member and i didn't make walax take that off get your facts right before you go accusing people bud and were not babies either because were past the age of 4 thank you
