Next Year

With this year's season coming to an end, who is going to be the top next year? Is it the all time favorite Bainbridge Island? or is it Garfield with a strong shooter becoming a senior next year? Does MI have a chance, first time without a key player (people like Greg and Kevin Mahoney, Chris Taylor, Brad Gillis, Luke Larson...etc) Give your thoughts on this.

good game

a game i would want to see would be curtis and bellvue

Issaquah is special, I doubt

Issaquah is special, I doubt that will ever happen again

mark my words...

Lynwood- wont win a game

Vashon- Will make an upset or two but wont be able to come through in the playoffs

Curtis- Will go to playoffs but lose

Issaquah- Go to state

BI- come out hot but cool off in play-offs

Bellevue- lose close one in semi-finals

MI- Go to playoffs (barely) but lose

Maple Valley- Wont make playoffs

Skyline- A darkhorse that could potentially make playoffs, especially with the return of Austin Strand

Eastlake- Will only beat Roosevelt, Lakeside, and Lynwood

Lakeside- beat Lynwood, lose the rest

Garfield- go to state

Roosevelt- Bottom feeder like usual, just a matter of time before they are sent to DII

Any team I forgot to mention is not significant.

Mostly agreed...

But a few exceptions:

1. Garfield will probably not go to state. They are a very solid team, but not up to par with the big dawgs (the island teams). It's very possible that they'll make it to semi's.

2. Issaquah is iffy. While I agree that next year they'll be a very solid team, it's hard to say right off the bat that they will go all the way.

3. I don't think that Mercer will "barely" make it to the playoffs. Upcoming freshman and still many talented players will keep their team stong enough to make it to the semi's.

4. Eastlake wont beat Roosevelt. While the Rough Riders have never really been a "dominant" team... but with a little experience under their belt, I think they can pull off a few wins.

5. I really, really hope that Vashon does better than first round playoffs. Of course, everyone who writes about their own team will say the same, but it'd be cool to have the small school team make a run for State as we did in 2005 down in D2. There's a lot of talent in the remaining players, and there are a few standout players in the 22 incoming freshmen.

Overall, I think that next year will be more "even" that it has been in the past for the top 8 teams. Rather than the dominance of BI and MI, I think that Bellevue, Garfield, Vashon, Curtis, and even Skyline could all be in the runnings as well.

who is that blondie kid on

who is that blondie kid on vashon? whoever he is he's sick and is gonna do well next year

Eric Davidheiser

Yeah, he'll do good. But he's going to a prep school in Pennsylvania for his Junior year.

So no blondie next season.

Except his bro is gonna be a freshman next year. Definite potential.

Off topic though...

they're off the mark...

cmon man are you serious? garfield in state? hoffman is gone so that means most of their won possessions on the face are gone too. without any arguing caldwell is a savage and most likely next years top all-american, but they're short on bodies and he cant be everywhere at once. and how can you call roosevelt a bottom feeder thats gonna get sent to DII and then say lynnwood wont win a game and lakeside will only beat lynnwood. you contradicted your self in so many ways. and ever since eastside lost greg bearson they've been a "bottom feeder" too. hell, even roosevelt blew them out this year so shouldnt they be sent off to DII as well?
it seems like theres this rotation of the top teams in DII and the worst teams in DI. the best DII teams replace the worst DI teams, the DII team learns the hard way they cant hack it DI, spends the next few years getting run all over and moves back down. then the DII state-champ replaces them. example: nathan hale moves down to DII and makes it to the playoffs. lynnwood moves up to DI and only wins three games. wtf.
now unless a nuke falls in mercer island and they have to start playing lacrosse again in DII after the radiation is gone, you will never see a team like them get moved down.
but anyways, most of the stuff you said about the usual suspects (bellevue, issaquah ect.) are pretty dece. and its just a matter of time before skyline becomes one of those teams

That's not always the case.

That's not always the case. Remember just 3 years ago issaquah was new to D1 and they made it to the finals in their first year, and have been a top D1 team every year. Vashon, though not dominate, has been a challenging opponent. So to say the cycle always repeats itself is not the case. I think as time goes on more of the D2 teams coming up will be better prepared due to the increase of interest in the game and organizations with roots growing in youth lacrosse (i.e. middle school and below)

misquoted

did i say "the cycle always repeats itself?" no. i said that there was some sort of rotation. i didnt say it applied to all teams. issaquah is the only team that moved up to be that competitive. dont put words in my mouth

UNSTABLE

Skyline played tough in thier first year, and so did eastlake, vashon last year didn't dominate but has been a playoff team both years, and you know about issaquah's success. Lynnwood, didn't fare to well, and roughriders have had problems. But I don't think a rotation is happening as frequently as you say it is, i think lacrosse is still unstable in a lot of washington, and that is what you see. Mercer, bainbridge are two teams you can say will never see d2, why, stability, I believe issaquah is stable, and vashon is stable...but with growth happening in the city, any city team could move down and any city team could move up. Nathan hale has no feeder program, how could you compete at the d1 level without one. yet they had lacrosse players and athletes and can compete with NEW programs with little to no stability in d2. Eastside is getting split every which way that I m still shocked there is still a program. roughriders have no feeder program, so i wouldn't be shocked to see them in d2 soon. STABILITY, lynnwood seems stable, they have all the feeder programs and look healthy, one year at d1 shouldn't be the tell all for them. etc, so i understand the rotation you are speaking of, but it just isn't as big as you make it out to be. D2 is where new teams start and learn to play lacrosse at the hih school level, a lot of those teams do not have feeder programs or have just started them. Pretty much the whole north side, stanwood, mukilteo, whatcom have just started youth teams, some don't have feeder programs and rely on athletes, overlake, north county...so until lacrosse is more stable, you will see stable programs from d2 move up, and unstable programs move down...Northshore, even though they are new, is stable, let them move up! even snohomish is stable, i think they should move up, and puyallup and tacoma are also stable programs who can sustain longevity in d1...etc!

thanks for the explanation...

gee, thank you SO much for telling me that feeder teams stabilize a high school program. I DIDN'T know that.

extensive

since you didn't know, i am glad I could learn ya! LOL. I realize that was a long and extensive post...I got on a little roll there! I know everyone knows that feeder programs stabalize high school teams, but i still had to give examples.

just another

you forgot seattle prep

D1 teams

Is Roosevelt a.k.a. Roughriders?... and I think you only forgot Eastside and then someone else.

hmm...

Sort of disagree with you on some facts. I think BI will go to the finals, MI will easily make playoffs but not state, Garfield won't go to the finals. Lynwood will win Eastside, Roosevelt, and Lakeside.

hahahaha

hahaha...gillis, you included him?

Vdonk!

Brad Gillis was the best player to ever come out of Washington! I still watch his game tapes to perfect my D, not to mention, his left hand was something that intimidated goalies across the league.

MV

what about maple valley? they are raw

mv

exactly y they won't be one of the top teams, too raw!

you are just jealous

you are just jealous

The Big 3

Mercer will be sick
Bainbridge will be sick
Issaquah will be sick
Curtis will be 4th sickest
BI and Issy will meet for the first time in the finals, and it will be sick. In '05 and '06 Bainbridge and Issaquah played 3 times, each game was decided by 1. I hope to see more of the same next year.

MI is screwed

MI is known for having outstanding players who lead them up to winning the state championships. If you look at this year, Mahoney and Ellis lead the team and barely anyone else contributed to their team. Now that both of them are gone there is no one to score for them. Their defense is also in trouble since their top D guy is also a senior. The two freshmen this year were decent but that one big fellow got burned a lot. Next year MI is seriously screwed unless someone steps it up next year.
I believe that Issaquah will have a really good chance of winning state next year if they don't screw things up next year. They will definately be one of the top offensive powerhouses next year. Returning players include: Bates, Wright, Yaap, Pancottine, and Director. They sort of lack on defense (except Pancottine) but with a huge offense like this, decent defene is enough.
Bainbridge Island is also one of my top contender for next year's state. They have a lot of strong players returning including number 11 (forgot his name...but I know he's really fast and athletic.) Max Olson (My number 1 choice to be All-American) and Dayton Gilbreath. Plus they get their goalie for another two years. Bainbridge has a lot of depth within their teams which make them a strong team. This year, between MI and BI, MI definately had better players that can ball individually but BI had better teamwork which led them to coming on top. I think no different next year. They will be a strong team not because they have one or two outstanding players but because their team has a lot of depth.

i didnt think ellis was

i didnt think ellis was impressive i think mahoney made him impressive. There was a guy Matthews i think? he was an attackman, who had way more skills than ellis did

Mercer may have lost to BI

Mercer may have lost to BI but it was certainly not because of their lack of teamwork. Bainbridge obviously had more depth and better players, but MI hung in their because they have great team chemistry and coaching. maybe you should meet the team before saying they have bad teamwork. also there were five freshman on varsity for them this year, all of which will be sick for the next three years. i guarentee you that chris taylors brother steven (a.k.a. baby jesus) and both the freshman d-poles will all have big years next year.

...in a sense

I don't think that Mercer is totally screwed. I doubt they will get to the championship game which may be considered a bad season in their opinion. But I think that Mercer has easily one of the most fundamentally sound teams in the state. Every player on their varsity line-up can throw and catch well. They just need players who can put the ball in the back of the net. I'm sure they will still be a force though and definitely make the playoffs.

yea MI is losing

yea MI is losing wettack...but they still have 2 starting d-poles and the starting LSM returning...and that sophmore is nasty

O hey there JP.... # 27

O hey there JP.... # 27

Curtis sure talks alot. It

Curtis sure talks alot. It always seems like "next year" will be their year. But we haven't seen much results.

Curtis

Not alot of curtis players have been talking big, I mean I understand that several of us have said oh yea were young, gonna come out big next year, or two years or whatever, but for the most part we know its not something thats not just going to happen or anything. Were going to have to put just as much work as anyone else does to get anywhere

Curtis

true dat

Mercer

what about Tim Wettack? He's a starting senior DPole. And plus, that sophmore kid who starts is horrible. Beckwith will be nasty though.

savage

mercer island is going to have a savage defense next year...with a 4 year varsity goalie and all 3 starting d-poles returning

MI

their defense didn't look that savage when we played them

that's cause it was two

that's cause it was two freshman, a sophmore, and a senior of whom it was his first year at D-pole. and unless your on bainbridge you cant talk cause we dominated you. and even in the state game they stepped up big-time. props to Bainbridge though they played a great game. The D for mercer will definetly be nasty next year

your D doesnt dominate haha

your D doesnt dominate haha trust me your offense does

excuses

stop making excuses no one cares but i di think that mercer will make it to the playoffs

its true though, there were

its true though, there were two freshmen and that makes a big difference

my thizzoughts

Many teams next year will be more evenly matched. Curtis as well is graduating 2 seniors, 1 of which plays Varsity. No one man team will become a successful team, that's just how it is. Look at Eastside last year, bearson (spelling) was raw, but his team didn't have a very successful season.

Issy/skyline

Issaquah and Skyline will both have strong teams next year.

Skyline, graduating only one senior from the entire program who swung for JV/V and didn't start, will return virtually the entire team who has improved from begining of the season to the end.

Issaquah graduates only a handful of seniors and will continue to be a strong team as they have this year. With next year also brings the return of Travis Wright, a threat during his freshman and sophmore year (where he made second team all-state), and Nick Yaap, who was out the majority of the season due to injury.

Of course there will be other strong teams these are just the two i know most about...

issaquah gets travis back

issaquah gets travis back who can easily replace Cale and more

cale was extremely

cale was extremely overrated. i played with him on precision and he sucks

Snohomish

Snohomish is screwed.
