Should coaches be able to coach "Out of Season"???

Seems odd to me, there are so many other states where coaches can coach their guys in the Fall. For instance, Oregon can coach as long as no more than two of their high school players are involved in what they are coaching. I understand the problem with doing that here, but one thing is true- if a coach is a professional-or does nothing but Lacrosse, how is that rule legit? This includes clinics, etc. Right? I think that holds the game back, especially for High School Freshmen. Why does the High School league think following the rules for WIAA is beneficial in this case? It makes ZERO sense.
..
i dont think you should be able to have a fall coach or "volunteer" because thats basically just finding a loop hole in the system no coach should mean no adults supervising you.. like bellevue who hired a coach or w.e for the fall
New Rules
The WHSBLA board has changed the rules for High School Coaches regarding out of season play. Coaches cannot officiate fall ball practices at all- this may prevent the potential for abuse of the no coaching rule. Some folks have also enlisted additional coaches to coach their teams in the fall, others have the parent organizer structure fall ball. What is interesting, is that just four years ago, there was not even discussion of what happens out of season. That is how much the game has grown and the level of competition improved.
i personally dont like
i personally dont like captins practices because without a coach the attendance goes down and there is less productivity maybe because half my team are sophmores and have a bigger sense of humor or are less mature i dunno... but i think coaches should be able to coach a certain set number of days in the off season like 3 days a week or something.. im just bored cuz im TAing for a teacher in 4th period and i have nothing to do so keep posting to keep me busy please
You know nothing.
Issy, Mercer, BI, Garfield, they train with their coaches all summer, but come fall and winter its purely captains practices. I know the perennials comply by board rules. Honestly, if you ever looked at www.whsbla.com you would see that all of the coaches are involved in voting or at most on the board itself. Of course the ultimate goal is to become state sanctioned, but right now theyre trying to promote growth in general. So I think youre full of crap if youre trying to say the coaches are cheating the WHSBLA rules.
I need to get my facts right!!!!
I guess you aren't that knowledgable either - the only coach out of those 4 programs on or involved with the board is your ex-coach (Brandon Fortier).
My point is that all of the big teams, of which you missed out Bellevue, train year round. Whether this is with coaches or whether it's as captains practices the teams still work together off-season. The whole point of this questions was it's an out of date rule that should probably be dissolved.
Personally I think it doesn't make any difference if a coach is present or not, captains take their lead from a coach so it's no different. Just get rid of a rule that isn't policed or even followed.
outside coaches/volunteers
some of the teams have other people come in and supervise/play durring the offseason practicees/scrimages. there are lots of people who have lots of experience with lacrosse that don't have the time to be a fultime coach.
yeah, you do
Ryan Kelly is on it or atleast was on it on june tenth, the metro representative. All coaches are in contact with board in some shape or form. I know coaches who wouldn't hesitate a minute to hold five practices a week in much of the off season, thats why those rules are placed there. Teams follow them, it would be stupid to try and strike it down. If you have beef, go to whsbla.com find the email of Dave Low and send him a letter with your request, I dont with Walax's forum has the power to change rules.
What's the point in having a rule no one follows
Let's be honest - most D1 programs (we all know who they are)train year round. Some of them train without their coaches and some are trained by their coaches but are just never caught. What's the point in having a rule if there is no punishment for breaking the rule.
I think the board should either police the rules they set or just throw it out. It gives teams and coaches a mixed message that says it's OK to coach the teams as long as they aren't caught.
Funny you say that...
I think the bigger problem is that coaches don't leave their kids alone- ever. Take a coach that has nothing else to do in life- and let them "coach" their players year round? I don't see how that is good for the player, it will burn them out. Not that it is enforced ever- or that there are any penalties for doing that...
