Championship Day Feedback

It's been a great day at Memorial Stadium so far and we hope everyone has had a great time.  Tell us what you loved about the championships, what you didn't like and what great ideas you have for making it better next year.

WE WILL SAY THIS ONE MORE TIME....

Please keep the insults under control.  We don't want to delete posts or  this forum topic. These boards are for the community and we try not to interfere as we believe the community does a pretty good job of policing the board by keeping other users in check. We understand that there is some banter coming from this season that people need to get off their chests BUT keep it clean, keep it fair and don't make it personal.   Otherwise we will be forced to delete this forum topic-help us out.

As another reminder, this topic was created this to get positive and negative feedback about the Championships themselves.

In times like these i turn to my spiritual councilor:

So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Ah yes, I have to laugh

Ah yes, I have to laugh, because I've outsmarted even myself. My enemy, my foe, is an animal. In order to conquer the animal, I have to learn to think like an animal. And, whenever possible, to look like one. I've gotta get inside this guy's pelt and crawl around for a few days.

Rule # 76: No excuses. Play like a champion.

Dear DipSet99,
I graduated from Forest Ridge in 2003. In my three years of playing varsity lacrosse there (also serving as co-captain my senior year), I have never seen such an egregious example of poor sportsmanship. I was not the best player on my HS team, by any measure, and I am the first one to admit that. But of the many important lessons I learned on the field, the most valuable is that the purpose of any athletic endeavor is to challenge your limits both on and off the playing field. Now, in college, I'm the varsity coxswain on a D1 men's crew team and I've carried that with me. One of our most cherished traditions in crew is betting shirts. What does this entail, you ask? After every race, the losing crews literally take off their sweaty shirts and hand them to the winners, shaking their hands and congratulating them on a well-won victory.
Ironically, I also grew up on Mercer Island and my younger brother played lacrosse there, and was injured many times. (I might also point out that my father, as well, played in college, but that's beside the point.) I'll grant you that many of us MI kids have an attitude of entitlement and don't recognize how lucky we are. And I'm not going to lecture you on the evils of stereotyping, because A) everyone else in this forum has, and B) most stereotypes have a grain of truth in them. But you know what? Life's not fair; get a helmet. Some people win the womb lottery and it's a waste of your energy to begrudge people what they were born with. You know what an even better strategy would be? Make friends with them; then you, too, could enjoy their boats and waterfront houses.
Without question, watching a team you don't like win is a painful experience. But Forest Ridge taught me that those are the most important times to behave with class and grace. I don't want to start some "posting-war" with you, but after reading your posts, I feel compelled to tell you that I'm embarrassed to be in the same alumni network as you.

A good time but..

We should have had the girls games alternating with the boys. By not doing so, we in effect segregated the lacrosse community. One of the comments suggested we go to the news outlets and get their interest. The problem with that is that we are perceived as smaller community than we really are when there are 2000 people in the stands for the boys' games and 2000 people for girls'games when there could have been 4000 people for all the games. Might as well held the boys' games at Mercer Island some other Stadium and the girls' games at Memorial stadium because the segregation would have been the same.

Other than that, my son and I had a good time.

Winner: Washington HS Lacrosse

There were no Division 1 losers on Saturday and I say that as an MI supporter. Yes, MI finished with a higher score. But, give Issaquah great credit for running seven, unanswered goals after being down 6-2. That showed heart, and what talent as well as mental toughness brings to the game. Both teams displayed this magnificently.

2006 featured a very competitive season. As a fan, it made for quite an experience at each game. The league fielded a number of talented teams who on any given day could have defeated all others – and they did.

Here is something we can do collectively as LAX supporters: push to elevate the game in the minds of those newspaper editors who relegate it to “not-news” and/or begrudgingly give it minimal coverage (and then only if there is nothing else to cover). Maybe we’ll be able to snag a few disgruntled Mariners’ fans to fill out the stands.

A message to all players who played with heart, talent and mental toughness: keep it up!

Thanks for a great season and a superb playoff series.

Winner: Washington HS lacrosse and every participant.

Nice Post

Thanks, that's a great post.

Back on Topic

I thoroughly enjoyed the championship games at Memorial Stadium. I think it was a better venue than Qwest Field. It was more personal, the crowd noise was heard on the field and you sat closer to the action. The long line at the concession stand was the only thing that needs to be fixed for next year. Thanks for putting on a good show.

agree

good day, but the line for food was insane. Then I got food poisoning from that hot dog.

Photos

Next time have the photographer take more photos from the other side of the field so we get some fan action in the background - it looks like there wasn't anyone watching the games

LOUD NOISES!!!!!

LOUD NOISES!!!!!

STOP

This is getting out of hand. Big deal if that d pole is fat and big deal if dipset is a girl. It comes down to this: all this trash talking does no good for building Washington's stake on the lacrosse map. MI won, Issaquah lost, that is that. MI may not have the most talent, but hey, they put it together when they needed it the most. Instead of sitting here and talking trash about one another use this bitter taste and fuel the fire. If some team wants to dethrown MI it would be in their best interest to hit the wall ball and to hit the weights instead of trying your luck at trash talking. A word from the wise: GET THE **** OVER IT.

Isn't it usually a word for the wise...or a word to the wise...either way its a subtle difference but its kind of funny.

Well

I did not write my last piece trying to change your opinions of me. I could care less about you Burt, but one asked for me to reveal myself and I did just that. Thank you all

Clarification

Dipset definitely isn't from Issaquah, so please don't affiliate his/(her?) comments to Issaquah Lacrosse. MI battled hard and won, so congrats. Ken Ankrom is a solid pole. Sorry for any mix ups.

The mask is off!

have i gone to far or too far? Well it is obvious that someone needs to sharpen up on the grammer but now for the moment you have been waiting for buddy....my mask is coming off.

I am a lacrosse player but my playing days are over. I graduated from Forest Ridge two years ago where I played varsity lax for three years. I was introduced to the game by my older brother who played for eastside's youth and high school team. I have bitter feelings towards MI lacrosse for two reasons: 1) My bro dislocated his shoulder in a game against MI in which seemed like a late hit. 2) My senior year, in a game against MI, i was tripped and toar my MCL and had surgery two weeks following.
Lacrosse has been a big part of my family as my father played in college and all of my siblings played on the high school level.

There, the mask has been removed and for all those who have been making comments about me "jacking off", you may want to think again. Now, is anyone surprised that a girl can talk that much smack?

bitter?

well, someone's bitter... i suggest getting over it, regardless, it doesnt come anywhere near justifying your earlier comment.

get over it

look i came back to the season late... played two exhibition games, tore my acl in the first half of our second game against issaquah... i just got done with surgery and my summer is done... i wakeboard 120+ days a year, and was hoping for an awesome season this year... well now all that is gone... not only that but i was on the sideline for the rest of my senior year... it wasn't issaquahs fault that i tore my acl, and it wasn't mi's fault that your mcl was torn... that's how the game goes, if you don't want to get hurt then go play golf...

2006 state champion

hedu dipset

As a freshmen at MI, I hardly know people on the MI varsity team, including number 39, but already its blatant that they have more class than you. I know it's not seen as a big deal that someone posts mean comments (about someone who they've never met) on a website, but its the principle of how immature, thoughtless, and just insulting to what this website stands for. Ken Ankram is too nice to come back at you for your tactless comment, too nice to tell you what everyone else on this forum has been telling you, and that is that you're just, a joke. You get mad over a family member getting hurt in a contact sport and decide to hold a grudge. And with holding that grudge you attempt to bring down someone who all you know about them is their lacrosse number. You're sad dipset, get some help. But for the championship, it was easily the coolest thing i've ever seen, nice job to both teams.

hahaha

no but it shows that your parents did not raise you very well. Hahaha ouch your big bro got hurt playing lacrosse that’s a rare in lacrosse. Why would you hate a team or organization because you play a sport that involves contact and pain? That is the worst argument ever.

Thanks for removing the Mask

Sometimes the brain moves faster than the fingers on the keyboard; thanks for catching my spelling mistake.

Talking smack has no gender boundaries. Making fun of a person's weight is not something I would expect from a woman who graduated from a high school with a website that says "we educate girls to change the world for the better."

Two years is a long time to hold a grudge. Maybe it is time for you to move on.

well then

Well miss,
While you have graduated from Forest Ridge, it seems you have not mentally matured to your age. Don't take this as an insult, but as a mere suggestion to flush the past and move on. Hopefully this suggestion will assist you in whichever career you choose to pursue (as laxstatus so wisely worded it, I would help you if you were in need no matter how disrespectful of a person you are, because that is how I am). You say that lacrosse has been a big part of your family? Then why would you jeopardize such a “great” pedigree in order to insult one high school athlete? In you foolish acts of passion you have soiled your family's name on these boards with childish insults that I found much more comical than painful. I hope you realize how much more embarrassing your posts have been for you and your "lacrosse family", than for me, your target. In closing I would like to thank the Issaquah lacrosse team for such a hard fought game, a true classic down to the last second; and to you Dipset99, I wish you and your family the best of luck in all of you future endeavors.

My boy

#39 on MI happens to be one of the kindest and hardest working Men on the team. Ken is so correct in saying that your family should be insulted and humiliated by your actions. I would love to see a picture of you. You must not be beautiful inside or out because your comments prove to me that you’re insecure about something in your life. Depset99 i feel for you and would recommend help. Ken is the truth.

Biggest load of BS i have

Biggest load of BS i have ever read. By the way, if you are correcting people's English, it's spelled grammar, not grammer. That story sounds pretty made up for me to believe, but I may be wrong. Either way, even if bad things happened to you while playing MI, i doubt they were on purpose and you should have the decency to not make fun of and personally attack talented players. I don't know what's worse tripping a person/hitting someone in a game or making fun of someone's weight. Wait, I do know. Your unconvincing story changes nothing, no one holds you in a brighter light.

Just a reminder of the rules...

We don't want to spoil anyone's fun but just a reminder to try keep the comments clean and leave the personal attacks at home.  Nothing better than a bit of Monday Morning Quarterbacking to get yesterday's game out of your system but lets just keep it as fun.

What a game...

Regardless of the outcome, that was probably the best lacrosse game I have ever seen. Both sides were driven and anytime a state championship can be decided in the final second is great. Congrats MI and thanks both teams for the game.

Amazing Goalies

Some great performance yesterday in the cage. Most notably from Eric Tao (EL) and Haps Seil (Iss-Blue).

Fat Boy

I would like to encourage all of you to look at the picture of MI on the homepage of walax. <edited>. Long live quahville!

time to call out dipset99. Troll or Lax Player

Dipset99 you have gone to far. Are you a lacrosse player or just a troll trying to stir up trash on this forum. If you are a lacrosse player where do you play?

Lacrosse is a gentleman's sport and a sport with class. I witnessed an Eastlake player and Lynnwood player talking about their plans for college and congratulating each other on a game well played. This is what lacrosse is all about. You can beat each other up on the field, but when the game is over, you realizie it was just that, a game.

I copied the following from a Native American website on the history of lacrosse:

For many Native communities, the game was a gift from the creator. It was to be played in order to "bestow honour and respect to these members [of the community] living on Mother Earth." The players were taught that playing the game was a gift, which contained the lessons of courage, strength, honour, respect, generosity and fairplay. Moreover, the example that they provided to other players and those watching served as lessons as to proper conduct within, and between, these communities.

Troll or Lax Player. Take off the mask. If you are a lax player, honor the sport and knock off the personal attacks. If you are a troll, move on and find another bridge to live under.

Dude for many native

Dude for many native american communities they played lacrosse to settle wars and people died! They even used skulls for the balls man...

With that said i would like to include another Caddyshack quote from the great greenkeeper Carl Spackler (Bill Murray):

"License to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. Man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower. And that's all she wrote."

Carl Spackler

I smell varmint poontang. And the only good varmint poontang is dead varmint poontang, I think.

haha we won dude

Dipset, Wow we were all having a fun time talking a little smack here and there but you just crossed the line. Dipset i can't believe that you can go and say that Mercer has bad sportsmanship when haha you just lost the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP and your stooping low enough to talk about someone’s weight. I completely forgive you though and so does the rest of the Mercer Island program because we have stature and class. I hope that your program appreciates you stating things like this; it makes you look like winners. Love your best buds, The boys of MI Lax

Are you serious?

Whoever dipset99 is... are you serious? What are you eight years old? You just resorted to calling someone fat. Obviously you have a very low self-esteem right now, but name-calling just makes you look even more pathetic. If you want to start talking about looks you have given me plenty of ammunition with just your troll attackmen.

hmm..

Looks like you like picking on #39 alot dont ya. YOu're probably the attackman that he was on and is just pissed that you couldnt get a goal off of him.

ps. doesnt the ice cream in the cup just sound delicious?

I defenetely rember 39,

I defenetely rember 39, Kenny Ankrom, holding off his attackman, 26, to the point were he was afraid to drive and even pass. You also would not be man enough to talk trash about him when he totally owned one of your attackmen right when he was about to take a clear shot and saved that goal. Great job, keep on embarrassing yourself, your program, and Fortier.

Maybe MI should look past

Maybe MI should look past those National Merit Scholarships, 3.5 GPA's, and superior athletic culture and maybe realize that nearly everyone in washington lacrosse might hate them for a legitimate reason besides being state champions...

With that little tidbit i must also add congratulations on the win and another state title.

Sorry, I didn't realize it was a "bad" thing to have impressive G.P.A.'s and high expectations for academic excellence.

What?!

Whats the legitimate reason huh? that MI is better than you guys?

i think dipset said it

i think dipset said it pretty well in that they are perceived as spoiled rich kids... yeah MI is good a team but so was BI back in there dynasty years. But no one hated them as much as everyone hates MI now for much greater reasons than simply being a good team.

I think dipset doesn't know

I think dipset doesn't know what he's talking about, and neither do any of you who buy into this "spoled rich kids" perception of Mercer. I would say about 90% of the kids on the team all work after school jobs, even during lacrosse. Plus, many of them have to pay for their lacrosse registration dues out of pocket, since it is not a school sport, which is a fairly large sum. Mercer Island does have this reputation, and in many other sports, it is a justified opinion, and it is a shame that kids on the island act that way, but when it comes to lacrosse, the team is very down to earth and hardworking. They don't just get what they want because they feel they are entitled, they have consistently worked hard for it. No one can deny that MI didn't turn their season around and make up for their slow start.
On an unrelated note, I don't understand why there is so much mudslinging going on right now about the championship and MI vs. Issy. MI and Issy both played excellent games and should be commended for playing their hearts out at the end of a very long season. So why doesn't everyone swallow their pride and allow themselves to realize that all of this talk is stupid and pointless.

I think you kind of proved

I think you kind of proved my point that theres an inherent perception/stereotype/self fufilling prophecy affixed to MI that gives it this aura of spoiled rich kid. But honestly, look at the wording of one of the entries by an MI player that included something about hanging out on a large waterfont property, the dude sounds like a poetic version of Sterling from Caddyshack to me.

Anyways im going to argue that the mudslinging is also productive to Washington lacrosse in general, as everyone loves a good rivalry and little controversy to mull over in the off season, cant wait to see the first issy vs. MI game next year.

There's a difference

There's a difference beteween "an inherent perception/stereotype" and a reality. Most of the time stereotypes don't accurately portray the truth and this is one of those cases. People need to understand that you can't base your opinion on stereotypes and reputations, but instead you should get to know the facts.

That first response, I'm sure was intended as a joke directed at that first responders to this topic. And the Caddyshack reference was good, I'll agree with that.

I also believe that there is nothing better than a sports rivalry, but when a little bit of trash talking about a game or a player turns into personal insults on someone's appearance it isn't any longer a good rivalry. Hopefully after people calm down after a little bit, it will turn back into the rivalry that I have enjoyed that past two years, and not this bout of pointless personal insults.

Congrats!

Dear Mercer Island Boys Lax,
I will give it to you, your school is amazing at lacrosse, a true dynasty. But honestly, besides lacrosse, you guys have nothing going for you. Congrats, you are eating cheerios from the cup but give it a few years and you will all be bagging my groceries. Enjoy this moment because it is most likely going to be the pinacle of what will turn out to be a wasted life. For now you are the winners but the entire state of Washington knows that for the rest of your miserable lives, you will be losers.

come on

this comment was obviously written by a very disgruntled loser(dipset), just because MI wins alot doesn't mean that thats there whole life. most of the guys there could get to college pretty easily with or with out there sick LAX skills. So instead of making up reasons for not likeing them, appreciate them for who they are in reality, champions...

That's funny, a kid from

That's funny, a kid from Issaquah saying that we will be bagging his groceries to kids from MI. I'm not gonna act arrogant and lower myself to your standards, but please come to MI and open your eyes. You will notice that you are quite wrong. Also, don't speak for the entire state of washington. While we may not be liked, I'm sure there is a bit of decency left in it. The fact remains that we won, we were the better team that day, and you will rember the day when you lost to Mercer for the rest of your life, and your pathetic reaction to your loss.

haha thats great

Dear Dipset 99, Man those cheerios taste mighty good right now. To bad you’re at home crying. We don't even care about the cup. We just wanted to show this state how deserving we really are. I must admit though this truly is the pinnacle of my life so far. I'm really sorry that you haven't yet had the opportunity to feel this way. How many times did you beat it with your tears last night? Oh and who had the Academic All-American on their team, yup I think you’ll be bagging our groceries. Good day to you sir, The Men of MI Lax
