Best D Pole of the last few years

I was reading the best WA High Lacrosse player ever forum, and every single one of the players being discussed was an offensive player. This is totally fair because in reality, they probably are the best. But what about the defense? This is rarely, if ever, discussed. In my opinion, Sean Whitsitt is one of the best I've ever seen. Lakeside would always put Sean on the opposing team's best player. When Lakeside played Garfield @ Lakeside last year, Whitsitt guarded Drew Snider for the whole game and held him to 1 assist. He also finished the season with 165 groundballs. I think the only reason he didn't get all-American last year was because everyone in the league hated him. But you can't deny his talent. Now I haven't been apart of the high school lacrosse scene for that long, so I was wondering what other people think.

Jeff Jorve

As mentioned in the All WA lax team forum, Jorve was a menacing D Man when he played at Lakeside (01). He almost beat out Bayly as the All American that year. He is a captain on his east coast team this year and a dIII all american. His speed and quickness have not been matched by any D Man since. Furthermore, his stick skills were so good he would often run middie during games. I've yet to see anyone as dominating as him.
Interestingly, WA has legit offensive talent, however, what makes this state of lesser lax notibility is the poor defense. It's a tough position to coach and their are too few people to do it - especially out on the west coast. Until the D improves in this state it will always be regarded as a "developing lax area".

I Totally Agree

Last year we as a team had the ability to vote for all-americans and whitsitts name came up and people said ya there is no defender like him but no one liked him as an individual so we all pretty much decided to note vote for him and send our votes to people like drew, chris taylor, VanderHoek, and others... He was defintly deserving, but as many said the politics of it did not allow him to be the All-American he probably was...

whitsitt

You can’t say everyone hated Whitsitt what is the basis for hating him. All American picks depend a lot on personal performance but also coach’s recommendations. He didn't get it because of the politics aspect of the selection process and the fact that there were some awesome players last year. Like Chris Taylor, Drew Snider, and of course Vander Hoek. These players put up huge points and deserved national recognition I mean Taylor is going to start against UVA today as a freshman from Washington playing for Georgetown how many freshman college players from Washington have done that for a DI playoff team. And in terms of good d-poles in the past years you have Defensemen like Dustin Cramer who played better defense then Whitsitt, you have Ben Wickizer from Mercer, Henry Sulzbacher who was just nasty and took all the face offs for Nathan hale to, you have Tyler Lee and Drew Flemming. All these poles played amazing an on a similar level as Whitsitt eventhough he stood out amongst all of them he was not leaps and bounds better than them. Groundballs don’t make an all American defenseman it’s the defense one plays that makes him an All American (he played good d to really good). He is an outstanding player I’m not saying he isn’t he is contributing a lot to Harvard and playing well. Whitsitt was good maybe the best of that year but he didn’t deserve to be an All American, like Taylor, Snider, and Vander Hoek.

I played against whitsitt

I played against whitsitt last year, and let me tell you- he was throwing stick checks on me that no defender had EVER thrown on me before.

definetly one of the best Ive seen
