Lacrosse Politics in Washington
Submitted by walax on Tue, 2006-03-07 15:12.Over the years here in Washington, the politics of "the maker's game" have grown faster than the sport itself. Some would argue this has helped Lacrosse succeed, some would argue politics really do only one thing- punish kids and reduce the available opportunities for them to grow.
UW Plays With Heart Against No 7 Oregon
Submitted by walax on Mon, 2006-03-06 15:27.Despite being seriously over-matched and out-gunned, a short-handed Huskies squad dug deep within themselves and gave another inspired defensive effort against #7-ranked Oregon. Goalie Tony Maack recorded 9 of his 20 saves in the first quarter, limiting the Ducks to only a single goal. Oregon outshot Washington 34-5 in the first half, yet the score at intermission read only 3-0.
Missing two of it's better players (Rossi and Tsui) out with injuries sustained against the Beavers the day before, a terrific group of Husky Defensemen led by Chris Moore, Drew Fleming, Steve Arata and Rick Martell-Scott disrupted the Oregon offense repeatedly, and Maack was there to deny most of the shots which did get through the forest of active long-poles.

Seattle Starz San Diego Tournament RecapSubmitted by walax on Sun, 2006-03-05 13:39.Right after the New Years in 2006 the Seattle Starz, Tacoma Starz and Oregon Starz traveled down to San Diego to test there mettle against some of the West Coast's best talent in a pre-season shootout. Both Varsity and JV Starz played tremendously, with the JV Starz taking third overall. Mark Dingfield, Varsity Starz coach had this to say, "First, the Starz Varsity owes a big ‘Thanks’ to Jon and Steve for their support throughout the tournament. With their help, the Starz Varsity team had a successful and fun trip to San Diego! The team finished the tournament 4-2, with both losses decided by a single goal. Three Seattle Starz players, Taylor Platt, Drew Snider, and Greg Bearson were selected for the All-Star game and many more received interest for college coaches attending the tournament. Most importantly, the Seattle Starz played each game with class and determination." MultimediaSubmitted by walax on Wed, 2006-03-01 16:42.Multimedia
