Shoot to Score Clinic Rips Net
For two hours, balls were propelled at speed from everywhere on the field towards the goals during Nathan Kenney’s Shoot to Score Clinic. Everyone who came to learn something about their shot picked up at least one thing they can fix and do well, this past Sunday. The confluence of talented coaches supplied every player with the ability to step up their game providing both individual instruction and group drills to hammer the shooting clinic points home.
Nathan Kenney hailing from Syracuse and UVA, may be one of the top players residing in the Northwest, and aptly, one of the most personable. Nate focused his audience into groups based on position, working with Midfielders learning how to shoot on the run. Adam Hughes, fresh from his tryout with the San Francisco Dragons, also shared his tips along with Nate on how to become a better shooter as an attackman. Fired up from the beginning, the two-hour clinic flew by, each of the players focused on the skills they were developing. The clinic included focus on fundamentals including everything thing from point blank finishers with a goalie, to rippers on the run from a dodge.
Nathan emphasized all of the fundamental shooting components as a prerequisite to a strong shot while keeping the clinic relaxed, the players having fun. “Overhand, Overhand, Overhand” was the key mantra thrown around and, boy, did it work. Espousing such wisdom as “All of this side arm junk may look flashy but it’s got about a 20% chance of going in”, at the impressionable offensive players seemed to oversize the cage, corners and net, including twine finding net rippers.
While Nathan Kenney put on the first 2007 Walax clinic this last weekend, keep looking for more Walax clinics this spring. With the season just around the corner, getting ready with some tips from some of the best in the Northwest is a great place to start.
