Northwest Lacrosse Invitational - Recaps Coming

The Bellevue and Mercer Island lacrosse programs are proud to announce the 2nd annual Northwest Lacrosse Invitational, being held Thursday through Saturday, April 5th-7th at Mercer Island High School.
This event will showcase two defending state champions; Lakeridge of Oregon and Mercer Island of Washington in a title bout as well as local perennial powerhouses Bainbridge Island, Issaquah and Bellevue.  Esecially exciting is the team traveling from the East Coast- Lakeland/Panas.  Flying in from New York, Lakeland/Panas, a top Westchester County lacrosse program, will be the first New York team traveling to the state of Washington to match up against local talent. This event will also have interstate JV and local "A" division 7th/8th grade match-ups.

The first match-up of the tournament will be on Thursday night between Bellevue and Lakeland/Panas at 5:30 p.m. Friday night, Mercer Island will play Lakeland/Panas at 8 p.m at Mercer Island Stadium under the lights.  The Invitational's events will include: the two defending State Champions in Mercer Island HS and Lakeridge HS (OR), playing each other for Interstate bragging rights, as well as Bainbridge Island and Issaquah (the 2006 state runner up) playing Lakeland/Panas at Mercer Island Stadium. Along with varsity and junior varsity contests, there will be high level youth lacrosse match ups with Mercer Island Black playing Bellevue Saturday at 10 a.m.

Tickets for this event will be $5 at the gate. Kids under ten will be free.

Food, event T-shirts and local lacrosse sponsors will also be available at the event, look for Walax as well, we will be covering the Invitational.

Come support and cheer on our growing lacrosse community. This will be a great chance to see some of the highest level of lacrosse being played in the Northwest.

Mercer Defeats Lakeridge in the Battle of the State Champions

Coming down to the last 42 seconds after a tying goal by Lakeridge, Mercer Island wins 13-12.  A write up, along with the Mercer Game will be coming...

Mercer 11, Lakeland/Panas 13

Not sure why this game wasn't reported yet, but I just wanted to say I was at the game and it was excellent. Panas has a more balanced team for sure, but Mercer was gutsy and Mahoney put on an incredible show. The kid was unstoppable.

Panas was very good with the posession changes, and they have an excellent "option" attack from behind the net. #5 was the most active; he would take the ball around the edge of the goal and try for a spin around. If he got past the defender, it was a straight shot in. If he did not, he would pass it off to another team member flashing through the crease. He got several goals and several assists this way. #43 was awesome as one-on-one; probably the best shooter I've seen.

Balancing that, however: Mercer was fierce on the defensive checking and managed to get the ball out of Panas' hands a number of times. Still, if Mercer wants to up their program to the level of East Coast teams such as this one, they will need to get better balance in their playing. They will miss Mahoney when he leaves.

The Bellevue Lakeland game

The Bellevue Lakeland game is 5:30pm @ MI grass field.

Ryan, Bellevue has won many state titles in its long history and since the program has been running strong for three years now they are not going anywhere but up in Wash. Lax.

3 years?

excuse me, but refresh me on what was their record for the 05 season?

yep

Yeah, I think Bellevue needs to make the playoffs sometime before we call them a powerhouse. I know they didn't make the playoffs last year, or the year before. Yes, they have won many titles, but not in the last decade. So let's wait till they make a playoff appearance before lumping them in with MI and BI.

Is the Bellevue time correct

You have it as 5:30, at sportability it is 8:00. Which is correct.

bellevue?

since when is bellevue a perenial powerhouse? they were decent last year, but were terrible for the most part of the last decade.

ya...

i sort of agree with ryanvdonk...and when did they ever win a state title? They are pretty decent this year, but before this year they were a joke...I do think they should be involved in the invitational though b/c of their standings this year...it should be a fun one!

a history lesson for younger players

Bellevue has won 9 DI State titles and 2 in DII.  Though their last few years before current coach Bauman were a state of decline, but even "Perennial Powerhouse"s such as Bainbridge only have a total of ten titles, and Mercer Island has only been a State Champion 4 times in DI and 1 time in DII.  Regardless, these are the top three teams this year, and should put out a good showing representing the Northwest Lacrosse we are growing here.

don't get me wrong

im well aware that back in the day bellevue and lakeside were powers in Washington state lacrosse, im just speaking that as of lately, neither has done much, and DII titles mean nothing, cause before when they were allowed to, Bainbridge's JV team played in DII and got to the finals.

Yeah..

9 D1 championships when there were like 4 teams in the league.

I love the Bellevue kids so don't get me wrong here, but they just laid an egg against Vashon. I don't think we can say with any authority at this point Bellevue is the third best team in the state this year.

I remember a year when a D2 champion beat BI's varsity team too! Although I will agree d2 has kind of gone to the crapper since then.

plus:

If the pages to the past all-american/all-state/and state champions was still accessable, the young guns might have known.

coming soon...

Like a Phoenix from the ashes, the archive info will all be back.  some of it was used in the Annual.  We will move all that stuff back after the season so it will be available to keep Mason on his horse... Consider the program has made monumental steps forward in the last three years, and up until this week, were a top-four team.  Lets see how Issy, MI and Bainbridge do against Lakeland/Panas tonight and tomorrow...

Thank You Walax!

i was wondering when you'd bring it back, it was sorely missed. and mason doesn't ride a horse, he rides a pretty pony, usually a pink one, though he will settle for purple.
