Undeniable-"L" says good bye to PNLA and the B division.
It took a whole year for me to say good bye to you, PNLA and the B division, that's because i realize now i won't be coming back and i wanted to take this time to thank you.....
Before i go on, i would first like to thank my wife, cicely. fir the love and support. she didn't understand the rules and like alot black women she'd never seen lacrosse before. but she saw the joy in my eyes when we won, and the pain in them when we lost. she knew what questions to ask, and when(especially after a loss to college inn) to let me be. thank you smurf, and i hope I've been half the man you deserve...
I'm diabetic, i had my left cornea replaced in 1998. i didn't know i was diabetic, i didn't even know it ran in my family. in 1999, my wife, like any good wife would do, forced me to go to the doctor. it was January, i was having flu like symptoms and couldn't quench my thirst
The doctor was from new jersey, he and i were having a ball talking! he took some of my blood, and said he would be right back. he was smiling when he left, he wasn't smiling when he came back! in fact he looked so serious i said "if Mr happy is broken, please lie to me!" he said "Mr happy is fine but you have diabetes." the first question i asked was "will this stop me from playing lacrosse, the league is going to keep stats this year!". he said "no, but you must take insulin shots, and check your blood sugar."
Thank you PNLA and the B division for keeping me alive! thank you for giving me a reason to exercise, keep my blood sugar down, and continue to play the game I've loved since i was 9. none of us got paid, but every weekend we suited up and played our hearts out. i had a chance to play college ball on the east coast coming out of HS, but my parents were dying so i joined the military. thanks to you every weekend felt like big time lacrosse!
Thanks to the PNLA, not only did i get the chance to play college ball(UPS) but i got to suit up with guys who loved this game as much as i do and win a championship. now I'm going to write a book about my experiences, the title is "undeniable". I'm no writer, so if any of you can lend a hand, please contact me!
Thank you PNLA and the B division, because now, in my year away from you i realise that i wasn't just exercising for lacrosse. i was exercising for life. thank you to the teams of the B division for taking a kid from the projects seriously and never letting me have anything easy! no one ever "let" me do anything on the field, every team made me pay for my mistakes. thank you guys for helping me, a knucklehead from Huntington long island, become "L". without this league, there is no "L", literally! i hope you saw the joy in my eyes when i scored a goal, because i saw the joy in yours when you stuffed me or put me on my back!
always and farewell
Lawrence C Mackey "L"
p.s. please forgive the mistakes i've made here, i'm not a writer!
