From the first draw control, it was clear this would be a fast break game. Bainbridge won the draw and headed to goal, but they were denied. Lakeside returned the break and senior attack Gracie Binder scored her first of five goals for the day.
Bainbridge went in on another fast break, but was denied again and Lakeside followed with a shot off the post after a run down the field. Two minutes after Lakeside’s opening goal, Bainbridge’s freshman Sydney Whitaker fed Sarah Shea right in front of the goal to put Bainbridge on the scoreboard. Lakeside took about two minutes to answer back when Gracie Binder got an assist off to Ellen Fitzharris who netted the ball. Not a minute later, Lauren McAndrews put Lakeside up by two with a free position shot. Lakeside kept the fast break coming, but the Bainbridge defense finally forced Lakeside to get settled and eventually forced a turnover, which Bainbridge’s sophomore midfielder Sally Baumgartner was able to feed to sophomore midfielder Mariah Walk who smashed the ball in for their second goal of the game. Bainbridge’s Whitaker followed that up with a shot from Bainbridge’s patient attack. Lakeside’s Brett Eisenhart won the ensuing draw and drove straight down the middle and took a shot that sophomore Bainbridge goalie Josephine Wallace promptly saved. Bainbridge was unable to capitalize on this possession and Lakeside’s Morgan Merriman found an opportunity to score off of their settled attack. Shortly thereafter, with seven minutes remaining in the half, Lakeside’s Brett Eisenhart found Gracie Binder who rocketed in a goal to put Lakeside up 5-3. This prompted Bainbridge to call the first time out of the game. It worked, as within a minute Marley Horne got to Natalie Evans for a goal, putting Bainbridge back within one. After five minutes of intense play, during which the Bainbridge defense continued to hold off Lakeside, Gracie Binder netted her third goal of the game for Lakeside on a free position shot. Bainbridge, determined to draw closer before the half, got the ball to Mariah Walk who scored her second and final goal of the game on a fast break with about a minute to go before half. Lakeside led 6-5 at half.
The second half began with an even higher level of intensity as both teams knew the game was well within reach of the other. However, Lakeside began a slow climb away from Bainbridge. First, Lakeside found themselves in front of the cage with a wide-open shot saved by Wallace, but they kept fighting and eventually Gracie Binder netted her fourth goal of the game. Not too long later at eight minutes in, Ellie Crutcher smashed in a goal, putting Lakeside up 8-5. Bainbridge answered back a minute later with a rocket by junior attack Lucy Schlesser, which would be Bainbridge’s last goal of the game. In ten minutes of scoreless play, Bainbridge was clearly rattled by Lakesides relentless intensity and struggled to maintain possession of the ball. With four minutes remaining, Lakeside’s Morgan Merriman found junior attack Ariana Vokos to put Lakeside up by three. Just over a minute later Gracie Binder completed her season with her fifth goal of the game, All-American status and the 2007 Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Championship Title.
