Inside Lacrosse and ESPN Announce TV Show

Inside Lacrosse will be producing the most compelling television programs ever developed for the nation’s fastest-growing sport in 2007.

Inside Lacrosse TV will debut with two one-hour specials that will air originally on ESPN2, with repeat airings on ESPNU.  The first special is scheduled to premiere on ESPN2 at 4:00 pm (EST) on Thursday, February 22.

Hosted by ESPN’s Mike Hall and Quint Kessenich, Inside Lacrosse TV will serve as a preview of the upcoming college season, while also taking a look at the biggest stories and personalities in the game.  The second special, scheduled to air on Monday, June 11 at 4:00 pm (EST) on ESPN2, will focus on the just-completed season.  The complete schedule for IL TV is as follows:

Inside Lacrosse TV – Season Preview Special
ESPN2:  February 22 at 4:00 pm
ESPNU:  February 23 at 1:30 pm;  March 1 at 4:00 pm; March 2 at 5:00 pm

Inside Lacrosse TV – Season Review Special
ESPN2:   June 11 at 4:00 pm
ESPNU:   June 12 at 5:00 pm; June 13 at 7:00 pm; June 15 at 6:00 pm
All times listed are Eastern Standard Time (EST).  Scheduled air times are subject to change

The Inside Lacrosse staff will be working directly with the ESPN production team to put each special together.

ESPNU Vice President and General Manager Burke Magnus explained: “These two programs further demonstrate our commitment to lacrosse across our platforms and offers fans more in-depth coverage than ever before.  Through our relationship with Inside Lacrosse, ESPNU is well-positioned to become the leader in presenting college lacrosse to fans nationwide.”

IL and ESPNU are also collaborating to broadcast both games in the inaugural Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Classic on March 3, 2007.  The unprecedented doubleheader featuring the Johns Hopkins-Princeton and Virginia-Syracuse games will be played at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.  The first game (Johns Hopkins-Princeton) will air live at 12-Noon with the second game (Virginia-Syracuse) to follow at 2:30 pm.

Coinciding with the launch of these specials will be the launch of “Inside Lacrosse TV,” a new component of Insidelacrosse.com that will be a home for video clips on the web. Segments from the show, extra footage, podcasts, video features and even submissions from subscribers will be run through this new portion of the website.

Lacrosse has seen dramatic increase in television exposure in recent years and the ESPN networks have been at the forefront of that expanded coverage.  The NCAA Division I Men’s Semifinals and Championship Game have been broadcast live, on ESPN2 and ESPN respectively, for more than 10 years.  In 2006 more than 40 regular season games received national exposure, including a 22-game package on ESPNU.

“We can’t thank Burke Magnus and ESPNU enough for their support of the sport, and of the Inside Lacrosse alliance,” said Inside Lacrosse publisher Bob Carpenter. “These guys ‘get it.’ You need proactive individuals behind a sport to push it into the mainstream sports awareness, and the folks at ESPNU in particular are proving to be those guys right now.”
