Garfield vs.Bainbridge Island Game Recap

This has been one of the most anticipated games so far with both Garfield and Bainbridge Island the only undefeated teams left in division 1 and both tied for 1st.

Danny Hoffman wins the first face-off with Max Callaghan, Caldwell Rohrbach and Jason Travis at attack for Garfield. Bainbridge's Gilbreath looks good on defense picking up ground balls and causing drops. With a shot saved by Jason Montoya this looks like it will be a midfield battle and a duel of keepers that can stop shots.

With Danny Hoffman taking on Max Olson Bainbridge he had a hard time hanging onto the ball. Jason Montoya has a 2-on-1 shot from Colegrove to score 1-0 BI at 7:03 in the first quarter. The Garfield Defense forced a clear and turned the ball over to BI. BI defense is working on the Garfield attack and BI maintaining most possession time. Fiore Alailima assists and after two dodges feeds Masi on the crease for 1-on-1 score. The tally is now 2-0 BI with 2:00 minutes in the first quarter.  More change in possession to finish out the quarter, both teams working hard, but Garfield not able to capitalize on Bainbridge's goalie.  1st quarter shots BI 5 and Garfield 3.

The third quarter begins with a 3 minute unreleasable for illegal stick, giving BI a second quarter EMO opportunity.  Moving the ball around, BI drives the cage and Willey Delius finds the net quickly making the score 3-0 Bainbridge. No more scores on the penalty, great job killing by Garfield with :22 seconds in the penalty and 9:22 left in the half.  After going even-up, with 8:28 left, Delius feeds Knight to sneak by Montoya making it 4-0. Garfield has to be wondering what they need to be doing here to get some possession time and shut down the shots right on the crease.

Garfield gets an EMO opportunity they cannot capitalize on as BI keeper midfielder turned-keeper saves two tough shots and changes possession to BI. BI is controlling the shots with 5:15 left in the half.  Garfield has their first real possession and a time out 4:39. Hoffman pulls out Colgrove and rings in a bouncer making it 4-1 BI. Garfield gets the ball back and calls time out with 2:25 left in the half, Garfield is just peppering BI with shots. BI gets the ball with  7 seconds and Delius scores with 1 second left in the half. 5-1 at half. Shots are even at halftime, but the momentum is clearly Bainbridge's.

In the third, Max Olson steals a pass clearing to Garfield's midfield on a clear and moves the ball with three sweet passes through the attack, but can't convert.  Wish pushes, Garfield goes two men down and forces the man-down team to spend time with only four, watches BI move the ball but fail to convert. BI fed Delius from behind to and score top right making the count BI 6, Garfield 1. A minute later, Hoffman answered with a solo bouncer making it 6-2. Possession change at 3:55 in the third, giving the ball back to Garfield. Hoffman beats Delius for a goal making it 6-3 with under a minute in the quarter. In three periods BI with 14 shots and 18 GB; Garfield with three shots and 13 GBs. 4th quarter, Garfield cannot generate anything and BI is controlling the ball.

In the Fourth, Delius feeds Masi for another 1-on-1 with Montoya who is getting shelled from the crease. Delius feeds Masi off the crease for another making it 8-3 with under 3 minutes in the game. BI controlling the ball dominates with another Masi feed to Max Irish for an inside pipe goal making it 9-3. Caldwell Rohrbach brings it hard on Casey Wiesner and buries one in the goalie going in the cage to make it 9-4.

Great fight by both teams.  Bainbridge is now 4-0 with their next game against Nathan Hale on the 31st and sole owner of first place in the Sound. Garfield drops below Prep after their win.
