this is hilarious

I think it's funny how people make different accounts and vote for themselves... case and point jason montoya.

coward

Its so easy to make dumb comments like that hiding behind an allius. Why dont you step up and tell your real name so the entire washington lacrosse community can know who is making such accusations?

it's 'case in point' smart

it's 'case in point' smart one

Yeah thats premature

John Hendersen as the best goalie in state? Thats a bit premature to say until he faces all the offensive powerhouses. Yeah hes played vs. Prep and Issaquah but itll be interesting when he plays against Garfield and MI and see how he does against some more consistent shooters. After only watching the kid play once in a preseaon match up i can agree hes a good goalie... but is he as good as Montoya with the defense that Garfield has? I dont know about Curtis' D but keeping Vashon to 11 shots is a pretty good number of shots to face as a goalie, maybe Curtis' D is a little better than thought?
Also Montoya has several all state honors behind him and has proven to be a sick goalie for the last 4 years, and to borrow a quote from the paleolithic creature of Monday Night Football John Madden, "your the champion until someone else is".

premature? guess again

curtis defeated Vashon that game by 8 points, it was Vashons first official D1 game. Vashon then went on to smash just about every other team they have played except for bainbridge, which they only lost by 2 goals.

This tells us one of 2 things, either Curtis played tremendous that game, or Vashon was not playing up to par with their usual game (which the game notes mention Vashon was missing some key players).

So most likely it is the latter, Curtis defense is alright, but not nearly as good as Garfield (keep in mind thats just my opinion).

Now go compare the ammount of shots taken on montoya to shots taken on henderson, theres really no comparison. Montoya gets an Average of 14.375 shots per game, and does maintain an excellent Save%; however, Henderson averages 20.375 shots per game, and has the 2nd highest save percentage in the league.

And I really dont buy into the whole "awards" ideal. Seems to me like politics (or the lax equivilant there of) has more to do with the distribution of awards than the effort players put into gaining them.

I have played against both goalies, they both have their strengths and weakness', but I honestly do believe John Henderson is the better of the 2

vashon lost to Curtis,

vashon lost to Curtis, because...A.) They played bad B.) First D1 game C.) missing losts of starters.

While i respect your

While i respect your personal opinion about the better of the two players its hard for me to buy the statistics of a goalie as proof that one is better than the other. As you can probably know a goalie is the quarterback of the entire team and general of his defense. After watching the way montoya runs his defense -- al players of whom has no more than 2 years of experience in lacrosse either as a pole or player for that matter -- it is feasible to say that he commands his defense at a higher level than Curtis' Hendersen. Montoya's clearing ability should not be inquestion either - during the BI Garfield game, BI ran a Zoned up ride that leaves the keeper to clear the ball with most of the players locked off. However, it was Montoya's precision passes through BI players that enabled Garfield to at least set up an offense. Furthermore, i respect your opinion about washington awards and politics but really last year who else could have been first team all state Keeper besides Montoya and Symington?

Best Goalie in D1

John Henderson AKA ICE CREAM is an unbelivable goalie.

Henderson for President

It's easy to look good when you have a solid Defence working for you like Montoya. Henderson faces probably an average of 15-20 shots a game and saves .687%. That is outstanding goaltending.

Henderson gets my vote, I

Henderson gets my vote, I think montoya is great, but has a much better defense to back him up, Henderson gets the job done solo

Re: Best Goalie in D1?

John Henderson is by far the best goalie in D1. He inspires me to be a better person. We should all take a page from the John Henderson handbook.

I wish John Henderson played for Mercer Island. We would be unstoppable.
