What's happening to MI?

Boy's Leagues

MI lost to Vashon last night in OT (10-9).  What's going on over on the island.  Does this mean we should count them out as possible champions this year?

Just Overrated

They've been overrated for some time, I think it's just catching up with them. Seems the Mahony brothers score 75% of all their goals so it's time for others to step up if they want to be any type of threat this year.

Not Overrated

I think it's more about parity. MI, Bainbridge and Lakeside have had some dominant periods in the history of Washington lacrosse. Now that the sport is growing so quickly, we're getting more, and better athletes in all parts of the Puget Sound area. Look at Whatcom last year. They came from off the radar to runners-up in a blink of an eye. They brought in some good atheletes and taught them to handle a stick. Issaquah is another great example. Their youth programs have caught fire and it's paying dividends in their HS programs. I think the days of dynasties are over. Out here on the Olympic Peninsula, we had one team (Kitsap Pioneers) that divided into 3 teams in the space of a year. It hurt them initially: if they would've been together two years ago, they would have had a much stronger chance to be playing at Qwest Field. MI will always field a solid team with some solid players because of their tradition, but we'll see different DI teams playing in late May every year now that there is so much parity.
