Moving Up to DI? Why not Lynnwood?

Boy's Leagues

Since last year, Eastlake and Skyline both have been invited to go up to DI.  Each has a board, a feeder program, and support of the community- all the requirements dictated by the High School board.  Lynnwood has fulfilled the same requirements, yet they are having to petitiion to get consideration for the same thing.  Skyline finishes its first year, Lynnwood has a few more under the belt- why the controversy?  Shouldn't Lynnwood be allowed to go up as well?

The real point

I feel that lacrosse needs to continue to grow in this state. If teams meet all requirements, and the league feels that they are ready to become D1 programs, then let them. I doubt any of the three programs mentioned will be able to do what Vashon did this past year. BUT, that doesn't matter nor should it impede the teams from trying. Each DII team should be having a long term goal of becomming a competitive DI program. Each year these new teams get older, and get feeder programs and youth feeding into the high school teams, and sooner or later they will be competitive with the tops in the state. Case in point, whether MI had an off game of not, did anyone think that Vashon would beat them, or that Issaquah would do as well in thier first DI year. The fact is that DII has been producing quality programs recently because these kids have drive and want to win... and who is anyone (except for the league board) to try and stop them. CONGRATS SKYLINE AND EASTLAKE AND GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR...and good luck to lynnwood on also becomming a DI program.

"respect the game"

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

Lynwood went 2-10 its first year, then 14-1 the second year. What changed in that year? They got two new players. Casey Bloomquist and Alex Burns combined for over 40% of Lynnwood’s offense and neither of them was on the team last year nor will they be on it next year. Along with graduating Casey Bloomquist and Alex Burns (40% of the offense) they lost Rob Love who was an all-state defender from a defense that Eastlake showed wasn’t even that good. So I guess you can cry about how a team you beat was moved up to DI while you weren’t and Chances are if you make enough noise you will get moved up to DI and you will get rocked. Or you can take my advice and practice really hard this off-season and try to win DII without Bloomquist, Burns and Love. Then you can reapply next year.

wow

Freak out guys I got your bad defenders mixed.

never realized anyone was crying

yeah your right we really did lose love who is a junior this year. next time if your gonna make a point get your facts strait. and even so, burns and bloomquist usually only played half the game and let our jv players finish out the rest. also, whoever said that burns was a big factor on offense anyway? if you know the guy he will tell himself that he would treat the game more like a football game than anything else and doesnt have the best offensive skills on the team. in fact sean girgus, kyton blair, and curtis weisser, who are all going to be juniors, led the team in scoring along with casey, along with leading the league. the defender was luke st. marie, and he used to joke with himself that he couldnt hold onto the ball for more than three steps anyway. you cant say that the defense wasnt even that good when you base it off of one game. eastlake may have had a better team but you have to think that both lynnwoods defense and offense was doing something right to get to where they did. and on top of it all three starting seniors was all that was lost for the next season. so maybe lynnwood would get rocked if they did move up but what makes you think that skyline and eastlake wont?

we can all brag

you want me to start about how skyline was such an underdog and how we got so much talent in such little time of course not because i dont make excuses

so stop with the whole.. sean girgus did this and all our freshman did this and we never even played the whole game and my toe hurt bs

Whatever!

First of all, I'm not from Lynnwood, I'm just someone who believes everyone should get equal treatment. Rob Love is returning next year as well as Girgus who was tied with or scored more points than Bloomquist. Skyline are only returning Murphy and Gervais. Eastlake is the only team returning all of their good players. At the end of the day programs don't get moved up based on particular players, it's supposed to be about the general quality and structure of the program.

..

so if skyline is only returning murphy and gervias can you tell me who they lost? besides ian labelle

correction

Skyline is getting everybody back except for their goalie. and the next year, they won't be losing anybody at all.

well then

"Girgus who was tired with or scored more points than Bloomquist."

Actually Bloomquist beat Girgus by 9 points and nice spelling.

you too

"If you have to ask that question you don’t disserve to move up to DI"

never knew that was how you spell "deserve", what are they teaching you all over on the eastside anyway?

also bloomquist and girgus were one and two in DII by a landslide, and most points were between the two of them, so does it really matter that bloomquist was ahead 9 points that girgus probably assisted?

...

yes

well

I cant say for sure.. but I do have a couple points.. 1. Lynnwood isn't good, and quoting an old coach "letting in a D2 program would water down the talent level in D1." 2. Who wants to drive to lynnwood, at least in D2 people live near them. 3. Who cares if they go or stay?

?

yeah i guess losing one game all season, scoring on average 15 goals a game, and making it to the state final and losing by three to a team that is moving up does mean that lynnwood really isnt that good. lynnwood can compete with the DI teams just as much as skyline and eastlake. also, lynnwood is only 15 minutes north of seattle...

wow

how can you say they can compete with D1 schools? Nathan Hale (maybe)? DI teams absolutely destroyed the top DII teams (eastlake and skyline) who lynwood lost to. 15 goals a game in dII is nothing, middle school teams can score 15 goals a game in dII. as long as you have that atrocious pad of weeds and dirt you call a field and those horrific tiger jerseys that make me wanna kill myself and disgraces lacrosse, you should not, and will not, move up to dII.

hey

hey we beat skyline.

correction

Skyline cleanly beat Eastide and played Curtis to a 3 goal game last season. So I wouldnt say all D1 schools can beat any D2 school.

ok not all d1 schools can

ok not all d1 schools can beat any d2 school. i was a bit over the top. but those schools are now in dII, or will be soon... congradulations

the DI teams that beat the

the DI teams that beat the top DII teams were the top DI teams too, and skyline didnt even beat skyline. and dont you think if scoring that much in a game might mean that maybe there isnt a lot of competition in the league? also, no one, not even the guys on the team, like the jerseys. and what makes you think that we are going to stay at our home field? in the end, someone as insulting as you is the real disgrace to lacrosse. oh and your right, we wont move up to DII, we are already in it. what do you even have against lynnwood anyway?

theres plenty of high

theres plenty of high scoring games in d1, between dI teams . and i made a stupid mistake about moving up to dII yes, but you know what i mean. i probably shouldnt have taken shots at your jerseys and field because skyline has a terrible field too. and theres plenty of d1 teams with bad fields and poor jersey decisions, but i dont think that the decision to move teams up to dI should be taken lightly which is why i think only Eastlake should move up

Yeah your right.

There wasn’t a lot of competition for Casey Bloomquist. If you’ve ever saw Lynnwood play last year you know he was the entire offense. Every play they ran was Bloomquist driving from up top or Girgus would drive and dump it off to him. I just don’t think you guys are going to have 15 point games next season, even in DII.

MasonPS is right

Lynnwood was good last year (see my above comment).

WOW

wow whats with that?

I just heard about this...

From folks in Lynnwood. I am struggling to understand why we don't allow and push all the teams who successfully complete the requirements to DI status? It doesn't matter if they are affiliated with a school or not, the stability will all change in the next 5 years when Washington Lacrosse goes WIAA, and some teams are still playing club while others will still be playing Varsity. In my mind, this is limiting the growth of Lacrosse if they don't.

Really?

If you have to ask that question you don’t disserve to move up to DI. Letting every team in that puts together a feeder program, a board and has the communities support would be pointless. If you are not going to be able to compete, then all your going to do is weigh down the talent in DI.

Huh?

Teho - I don't understand your comment. If this was the case then shouldn't Skyline be the ones to be held back, afterall, Eastlake and Lynnwood both had 12-0 records and went to the DII finals. Skyline only went 9-3.

I think it's more a case of politics rather than the quality of a program. I think the programs moving up have more supporters than Lynnwood. Really, at the end of the day if everyone meets the requirements they should move up. If there is one thing that sucks it's internal politics and massaging the regulations for personal goals.

That first part is true but…

You have to remember that it’s not last year’s teams that are moving up. So your record from last year doesn’t mean anything if you lost almost all of the talent that got you that record. If you want further clarification read my new comment above about how Lynnwood won’t be as good next year.

from the board meeting...

494: The Board has received requests from Skyline, Eastlake and Lynnwood to move from Division II to Division I. Dave will contact the director of the Lynnwood program to discuss concerns expressed by Board members. 495: MOTION: Skyline and Eastlake will move from Division II to Division I beginning with the 2007 season. Motion passed 6-0.

Nobody was invited except maybe eastlake for winning the state championship. Each team had to make a formal request and for whatever reason the board decided Lynnwood should wait to move up.
