Jax come out on top over swarm
Victoria, British Columbia, Dec. 16, 2006 – The Portland LumberJax emerged from a see-saw battle with the Minnesota Swarm tonight at the Save On Foods Memorial Centre with a 15-13 pre-season win in Victoria, British Columbia. Forward Peter Morgan paced the Jax offense and led all scorers with four goals and two assists for six points on the night. Next in line on Portland’s leader-board was forward Del Halladay who scored two goals and set up three others for five total points. Rounding out the top-three scorers was forward Ryan Powell, who earned a fourth quarter hat trick (goals at 0:59, 2:46 and 5:21) to help solidify the win. The LumberJax played aggressively and racked up 37 penalty minutes to Minnesota’s 23 in front of the 4,633 in attendance.
After trading leads six times through the first three quarters Powell opened up the fourth with two goals in the first three minutes. That earned a lead that the Jax would never relinquish. Portland outscored the Swarm 4-3 for the remainder of the game to hold the lead. Both Dallas Eliuk and Matt King played one-half of action and faced a combined 63 shots on goal.
