What else would you like to see on walax

This site redesign has allowed us to add more content to the site and also clean up the links.  You can still get to the old walax if you are looking for info from the previous site (see the local resources page).  If there are items you use regularly on the old site that we didn't move over let us know and we'll see how we can work them into the new design.

Tell us what else you'd like to see on this site or what you'd like to see more of...

Video Tips

Depending on your websites hosting services, I think some "Video Tips" would be good from talented players around the state. Just something that shows new players how to throw certain checks or new moves that they can visually see how to do. Just an Idea. I own my own video production company, I would gladly help you out with this project.

just an FYI

Just an FYI, on the pictures of the 2006 Women's Division 1 championship, its labelled under Northwestern versus Duke... they played duke in the semifinals... they played Darmouth in the finals...

just thought someone should know it was labelled wrong

Women's Postings in General

Whenever I look at the site, all of the posted stories are game recaps for the guys, and there is NEVER anything posted for the girls divisions. Even when the brackets are up for the Boys Div.1 and Div.2, the girls' brackets are missing. Its undeniably unfairand it seems like no matter what is done, the women don't have half of the resources and coverage that the guys do, on walax its all guys guys guys.
Even on the forum, the only active topic being discussed even concerning women is if they should be allowed to play for guys' teams and a good portion of those posts state how women deserve to be run down and aren't as physically capable as the men. In the state of Washington, where lacrosse isn't even that big of a sport, can we really afford to separate the two games? C'mon, give us some respect...

You can lead a horse to water...

I think this is a little unfair.  We do ALOT to post womens content on this site including paying to have girls weekly beat  written for this site.  Take a look at the girls content that is posted and look at the number of people reading it. It's remarkably low.  Walax has always done it's best to post as much womens contact as possible but it's hard when the female community aren't as forthcoming with information and articles as the men's community is.  We'll always continue to look for female content but there is only so much we can do.  If the girls would like to see more info on the site then please send it to us and we'll be more than happy to post. We don't want this to be a boys only site but we have many people contributing their content and therefore more on the site.  If you want it you need to help us get it.

Other state lax sites

It would be cool if walax had links to other state lacrosse websites primarily on the west coast. Just to see how much it is growing and the level of play other states offer. Utah, Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, and California. I know lax is huge in Colorado and getting pretty big in southern cali. But it would be interesting to look at other west coast states lax teams and compare the growth. just a thought...

Add this

D1 Jv Stats

all time Stats

I'd like to see a section with Washington's all time stats for each division

That would be great

If you have access to that information, that would be a great section of the website. It would help to show how far we've come. A lot of those new to the game here don't know much about the history of the sport in Washington.

We should be able to do that.

D1 JV stats arent kept on sportability so that request would be pretty hard to forfill but we can definitely set up and archive for all time WA stats for the past few years.  We'll add that to our 'Things to do' list for the off season.

i dont really understand this site

i am so use to the other site that this has to much extra stuff. yes i like all the other stuff you put in the site but its a little to much. In the other site it was always easy to find stuff and right to the point. This site just has to much extras

More is better than not enough?

Well we're glad to hear that it's too much rather than not enough but understand the new site may be a little hard to move around at first.

We spent a long time last year looking at what items were popular and what else people would like to see.  One of the major items we wanted to do was make the look of the site cleaner and make it easier to get to items, now you should be able to hit most items in 2 clicks.

We still have our site navigation bar which will take you to all the standard info that was on the old site.

All contact info and schedules for the youth, hs, college and club teams are held under the INFORMATION tab.

All of the information on camps and leagues are under the CAMPS AND LEAGUES tab.

We've added the FEATURES tab to include all of the new items we've added to the site:

  • Editorials
  • Articles on a national level, such as our Division 1 exclusive interviews
  • Local articles with coaches and players around the NW
  • Multimedia section which will include video, photos and other interactive items
  • The very popular Rumor Mill and Weekly Beat from the old site.
  • Competitions and Giveaways because everyone likes stuff for free
The Resources tab has all the links to useful sites, help wanted, contact info and general stuff that was a little harder to find on the previous site.

Finally the Camps and Clinics tab for our free events, private lessons and travel to lax events.

Our main page carries all the news which is not only local but national also.  We've found that our readership comes from around the country and not only from the Seattle area and therefore want to make sure we have 'something for everyone'

This site is only a week old and it's going to evolve over a time. We're working to allow our registered users the ability to personalize their site view so they choose what they can see and hide areas that they don't.

I guess we'd say just stick with it and see how it sits after a couple of months and let us know.  If there is anything that you used to view on a regular basis but you are having a problem finding then also let us know and we'll either make it easier to find or send you the direct link to that page.

Thanks again for the feedback, we really do appreciate it.

Weekly Beat for Girls Youth?

I agree with previous posts about more men's info on the site than women's, What about girls? They we be the next generation of female players from the West Coast so we need to keep some of the spotlight focussed on them or it will be difficult to attract new players. Stephanie Cone single-handedly introduced the sport a few years ago to a group of girls that now dominate varsity teams throughout Seattle, but interest is now waning. Who else will step up as she did?

We do need someone to step up!

We'd love to be able to offer a youth girls weekly beat this season but it's extremely hard to find people within the girl's community that want to commit the time to do this.  We will have the HS girls weekly beat and I think that is a big step forward this year, I'm hoping it will generate enough interest that more people within the girls community will want to get involved next year.

We'll openly agree that there is more boys and men's news on this site than girls but it's not a bias towards one over the other, it's more a case of being sent stories and information from the boys source and almost nothing from the girls.  If people can contact us or send info about their girls programs we'll publish it.

We will be having a number of local interviews with local womens figures this year and are generally trying to increase the amount of content this year although it will  still less than the boys (but more than previous years). It's not something we can do singlehandedly, it has to be a community effort, if people want more info and articles then there has to be some input from that side of the lacrosse community.

Our multimedia section will be online shortly and will include a girls section but again we'll need people to send us photos to add to the site.

Walax really would like to help grow the girls side of lacrosse here in the NW, we just need a little help to make that happen.

Steppin' up for girls' LAX

Thanks - I'll send photos of games when I can. I am a parent with too little knowledge of the game to report much, but maybe some of you other parents can join in and generate some buzz!

Thanks

That'd be great.  Thank you

Weekly Beat

More coverage of the womens collegiate club, NCAA Division III or post-collegiate teams.

Also, you might want to double check the "help wanted" section - some of those announcements are pretty old. You should list the dates the announcements are posted, if possible.

Agreed

Putting more female content on the site is one of our priorities this season and I think you'll see already that we have a number of articles on the site. We really want to be able to put up quality content but have had a problem in the past finding people to contribute news and articles on the female side.  If you or anybody out their would like to work with us to create the College, NCAA or club teams content please let us know.
Thanks

U of O Womens Lacrosse

How about updates on the Oregon Women's Division 1 Team, theyre the closest Women's Division 1 Team to Washington State and you have updates on men's lacrosse there, but none for the women!

Sure

Thanks for the feedback. We have one on the front page news about the St Mary's game and will continue to do college updates for both the UofO teams.

High School Lacrosse Promotion

Can Walax try and reach out to identify teams in Vancouver, Bellingham, and most importantly Spokane and TriCities and ascertain the number of programs and give them waterever support that is possible from teams in the King County area in order to support their growth so as to geographically grow lacrosse in other areas of the state? In so doing we can make another run at submitting an admendment to the WIAA (Washington InterScholastic Athletic Association) to make high school lacrosse recognized by them with all the other benefits enjoyed by current WIAA sports. This sounds ambitious but I believe it is already happening and we are not aware of the potential interest in these cities and could be of help. Great job with you new format and Website! John Verrilli

Will Do

Hi John - Once the season is going we'll reach out to some of these other communities and see how we can help. You are right that there is probably interest out there that we don't know about. It'd be great to see the lacrosse flourish in some of these other areas and grow lacrosse even more in this and surrounding states.

State wide High School lacrosse promotion

Would you like my help with this in the future?
John Verrilli

Love It

Love your help John, we'll drop you an email to get this started.

I would like to see a "stick

I would like to see a "stick tech" portion of the site with weekly tips on stringing, mainenece of pockets in the pacific nortwest etc. Also a skills and drills section that players can use to practice i.e.. Wall drills, field drills etc.

If you are looking for contributions I used to train professional athletes. There are a lot of misconceptions on stretching and strength training techniques that are appropriate for lacrosse. Exercises that will improve strength and quickness. And streaching techniques that are not contra-indicated, could be discussed.

You got it!

That's a great idea, we'll start working on the stick string tips and get that up within the next week or 2.

Collegiate Club Lacrosse

I would like to see a weekly beat written about the PNCLL. I think this will give high school players more exposure to the many club programs throughout the state.

I would also like to see Issaquah and Skyline win the D1 and D2 state championships.

President of Washington St. Lacrosse
Issaquah and Seattle Starz 2005
Eastside 2002-2004

Your wish is our command.....

We will be running a PNCLL Weekly Beat that will begin this week.
Thanks for the suggestion, please keep them coming.

Great Idea

Thanks Jake,

We'll see if we can get a PNCLL Weekly Beat going, I agree that'd be great for the HS Kids.  Not sure we can do anything for the D1 and D2 titles

Youth of Issaquah

As you should know, Issaquah has about 5 very young and talented Starz players that will have big shoes to fill. I think they can do it.

Look for Riley Gervais to rip it up this year at Skyline! haha

Good idea

Good idea on the PNCLL weekly beat... not too sure about Issaquah and Skyline winning the state championship though...
