This forum should be popular, answer one of these questions or discuss them?
WHO IS MOVING UP TO DI?
WHO IS MOVING DOWN TO DII?
WHAT NEW VARSITY PROGRAMS JOIN DII IN 2009?
North Kitsap
North Kitsap lacrosse's program recently dissolved, none of the players were showing up and the coaching staff wasent either, There middle school team is still around though
any news?
Did they decide who's moving up and down at the June meeting or whatever?
Woodinville High School
Anyone know if they're getting a team for next season?
i do not know
all i know is that we might move up to D1 next year or make a new team in a year or two.
WHSBLA past meeting minutes
WHSBLA past meeting minutes state that PCCS (Providence Claasical Christian School) in Lynnwood is looking to start a program for 09, maybe that is the "Lynnwood split" that is rumored.
Meeting minutes also indicate that Archbishop Murphy has interest in having a team for next year.
yep
That is what I read out of the minutes, is PCCS is the HS version of the highlanders. Also, word is there may be some newer eastern WA teams as well????
Anyone know about them?
OK now that makes more sense
The Lynnwood Highlanders youth lacrosse program would serve as a feeder to PCCS (a private high school). I know Gonzaga Prep in Spokane has a team, but as of now they are the only Eastern WA team and they play in Idaho's league I think. If more Eastern WA teams were added, perhaps there could be an Eastern WA regional (conference)...
three Eastern WA teams...
Gonzga Prep isn't the only Eastern WA team, There are two others that have played a full season of Varsity level lacrosse against teams on the west side of the mountains, and oregon and idaho teams. Wenatchee Valley has a team, and is growing, and Richland (three Rivers Lacrosse) has a team. I have asked around a little bit and have heard of a few new teams being possible
walla walla and another one in spokane?!
correction
sorry i meant like way eastern washington (as opposed to wenatchee and richland which i was considering central washington). I guess what I should say is Gonzaga Prep is the only team in the Greater Spokane area. But that is great to hear there may be more, hopefully Eastern WA can field a conference next season.
How about an intermediate move to D-1
I've heard the idea of regional play being kicked around and really don't like that idea. Having Mercer Island, Issaquah and Bellevue play against the likes of Sammamish, Eastside Catholic and others would not work. You don't learn the game if you never possess the ball. You would be setting up blow-outs that neither team benefits from. It's not to say D-2 teams can't get to where D-1 teams are, but forcing the issue prematurely will hold everyone back. I'm sure it's not easy to recruit to a team that is getting blown out game after game.
I advocate three divisions. Teams that are well established, have the financial resources to run a top notch program, have access to fields, have school support (not all school districts support Lacrosse) and have a history of high quality play are D-1. D-2 would be for those transitional teams that aspire to D-1 but don't have all they need to be there and be consistent. They may be relatively new, they might still be developing their feeder programs, etc. Good solid programs that just need a little more to get to the next level. Maybe this is where Northshore, Seattle Prep, Nathan Hale and Redmond belong right now. Maybe Lynwood and Roosevelt would do well here as well. A third league, D-2a would be for start-ups, programs that haven't been able to recruit strongly, teams that have shown difficulties in keeping their numbers up. This could be a more developmental league. This way, teams would be playing on a level playing field and the competition would be strong within the leagues.
Non-school soccer is like this. You have Select, club select, and recreational leagues. It seems to work just fine. The numbers continue to grow at all levels in soccer.
up and down
lynwood and roosevelt should both move down, it's not fair to the kids to have to play teams which honestly are just alot better and never have a real shot a success. It's more fair to the players on those two teams to be in D-2. As for moving up the only team that should do so is Prep, if at all. Prep put up a couple wins against D-1 opponents early and big numbers against most D-2 opponents. Congrats to NorthShore on winning the title, b ut i don't think they can roll with the teams in D-1, Prep even after losing has a much better shot in D-1 and that's just the simple truth, and to the other comment, it is a serious, serious long shot to say northshore would make playoffs no doubt in D-1, serious long shot
so final say:
Prep to D-1
Roosevelt to D-2
Lynwood to D-2
thats it
???
Why does everybody say roosevelt and lynnwood? If another team should move down with roosevelt it should be eastlake.
lynnwood
is it true that there will be a second team splitting from lynnwood next year...the highlanders?????
Any other new teams, West seattle? Queen Anne?
Lynnwood
That would be so dumb if a lynnwood highlanders team formed because we should be trying to get all programs high school affiliated. A team with a name like that makes lacrosse in Washington look poor and insignificant. I would find it hard to believe that a new lynnwood team by the name of the highlanders (like the youth program) would be starting. Same w/ west seattle and queen anne; they need to be high school affiliated or use a high school's name and colors if at all possible. Just my thought on that...
Winners of D2 should move up
Except in the really unusual situation (heavy losses of seniors like Tacoma suffered last year), the winner of D-2 should always move up. In the case of Northshore this year, they are losing few seniors, and have the core of their team coming back. Plus, you need to look at more than just this past year. The previous year they were something like 14-2. They had a huge plus/minus in scoring. They have a strong feeder program. What do they have to gain staying in D-2? Nothing. They should step up to the challenge and compete in D-1. I have no doubt they'll be able to make the playoffs.
Seatle Prep should move up as well. I don't think they should have moved down in the first place. They had 4 wins in D-1 before they moved down. I don't think that's enough reason to move down. Prep is a young team too, so they should be able to do well in D-1.
Redmond is still forming as a club, and they don't have the numbers yet to move up. They played their JV games this year with half their players swinging between the two. As they gain in numbers, I see them moving up in another couple of years. Plus Redmond will have one final split in a couple of years when Lake Washington High School splits off. So they should wait before moving up.
It's fun spectulating but I
It's fun spectulating but I honestly believe the desicion to move up to D1 should come from the people from within each program. They are the ones who know their programs best and know what the future of the program will look like. (feeder programs, future splits, club/parent support, securing field space and time, etc.)
GHS1, last year at this time you were stating that Northshore should move up, but NS was in the same position last year as what you say Redmond is in this year. (new club, players swinging between JV/Varsity, and will face a split in the next couple years)
Putting asides NS's D2 win this year, what's the difference between the two clubs in your opinion and why you think one should move up and the other shouldn't? I know what my opinion is, just curious as to what others in cyber-Seattle Lax- world think!! :)
moving up or down.
I think prep should move up and roosevelt down and possibly lynwood. Northshore is a definate possibility but i think they might struggle. But then again that was said when Puyallup was going to move up and struggle and to most peoples suprise basically made it to playoffs and only got beat by one by most other teams.
Alignment
Regional conferences seem to be a popular idea that could happen instead of D1 and D2. However, if the current system stays (D1-D2), Roosevelt will move down and Lynnwood should as their whole team was seniors and they still sucked. From D2, Seattle Prep should move back up as they return almost everyone and they have much better coaching this time around. Northshore could look into it, unless Woodinville starts a program. Redmond would be a possibility, but I think they will stay down for at least another year or two due to heavy graduation losses this year (Burke, Olin, etc.).
honestly no one should move
honestly no one should move up. Roosevelt and Lynnwood, two teams that never should have moved up in the first place, go back down. Or they should combine both leagues together and create conferences bases on on region. Seattle (city) teams, eastside teams, northern teams, etc.
regions
I am starting to more and more like this regional idea... It is growing way to fast everywhere to continually try and change the d2 league and playoff structure every year and make it fair (case in point Muk and snolax missing playoffs).
WA isn't there yet
As much as i believe regional conferences will become the standard in Washington we have to accept as a community that we are not there yet. Despite the growth there is still tremendous distance between the best teams and the worst. Just look at the state championship weekend. Issaquah was the D1 champion and Northshore was the D2 champions. These two teams played against one another during the season and the final was 20-5. It just wouldnt be fair to the highest level teams in the state to be given two or three quality opponents before the playoffs. What is the point of playing the regular season then?
Even if blowouts weren't a factor how are you going to divide the state up... Arguably the top four programs in the state year in and year out, are BI, MI, Issaquah, and Bellevue. From the 5/6th leagues to the WHSBLA these are the team to beat. Unfortunately 3 of the 4 are within 15 minutes of each other. If you throw skyline in their (4th best team in the state this year) you have 4 of the top 5 teams that would have to be in the same region... How is that going to work? Now instead of some D2 teams not making the playoffs you are going to cut out two or three of the best teams in the state every year before the playoffs even begin. It just wouldnt work.
If any changes must be made i would argue for creating a third division and possibly making D1 an 8 or 9 team league allowing everyone to play each other twice. This would further the level of competition and thus further the sport in the state of Washington.
