The recession has hit the
The recession has hit the lacrosse world. A proffesional sports franchise requires alot of money and unfortunatley money is something that many people dont have right now. This isn't the end of professional lacrosse as we know it. When the economy bounces back so to will the MLL.
Just because two MLL teams
Just because two MLL teams failed to survive in California doesn't mean automatically that the sport is doomed. This isn't the end of the world.

Maybe because the sport lacks the support it needs to be viable these teams folded. Ask someone on the street to name a lacrosse player and they cannot. Most do not know Jim Brown played lacrosse as well (by many accounts a better lacrosse player than a football player). The Gaits, the Powells are nobodies outside of our little lacrosse fiefdom; most new players have no idea who Gary Gait is or why he was on the cover of Lacrosse. The local papers rarely if ever provide any lacrosse information and when they do its 3-5 days late. We cannot get WIAA to recognize the sport. What about the PNCLL- are the teams content with just being clubs guaranteeing nobody will ever take them seriously?
Until lacrosse is a household word on the west coast- and not just a town in Wisconsin (actually had someone come up ask me if I was from there)- lacrosse in general is not going to do well.
MLL
I agree 100%. We've got to get our college teams to be more than clubs, and eventually get high school a part of the wiaa. This will raise lacrosse awareness... maybe lacrosse just isn't that appealing to most people, and isn't bound to grow much more... I hope not.
MLL
I wrote a comment on the article about this being unfortunate and comparing in to the MLS situation... maybe MLL could change their rules back to being more traditional like the college game (no 2 pt shot, no shot clock, etc.)? I don't know, but they have to do something.
MLL
The MLL made the 2pt shot, shot clock, etc to keep the game fast paced. I personally don't like it as much, but it's mostly for the newcoming fans who are just getting into the sport/don't know the sport. Being as it's still a growing sport, you need ways to draw people in, and keeping the game fast paced is what their idea was.
I say keep it the same way for those people, but like you said, they need to do something. Whether it be getting more advertising with major companies, or lowing the players already VERY low salaries.
I think when they took the MLL on the road (Portland for example), that helped a lot. I wasn't there, but I heard that they had a great turn out to the game, being as they have a professional NLL team which helps.
