RECAPS

PNCLL-A
**A great game to start of the weekend between the PNCLL giant #6 Oregon vs. an unranked Missouri.

Though there has been some speculation whether or not Oregon deserves such a high position in the MDIA polls, Oregon once again does not disappoint. Leading 5-1 after the first quarter and 7-3 at the half, the game never seemed to be in jeopardy. Although Missouri’s Goalie played an outstanding game, recording 21 saves, the performance wasn’t enough to knock off the Ducks. Oregon’s ferocious ride was enough to confuse the Missouri clearing squad. Even as Cordova struggled somewhat with a 40% save average, the rest of the team showed their goalie more than enough support.

Coffman and Tesar both had great performances with 6 and 5 points respectively. Julian Coffman scored 5 goals for the Ducks and registered one assist. Tesar’s play was a little less selfish, tallying up three assists, accompanying his two goals.

**Gonzaga again struggled with Nevada, then with Missouri. The Bulldogs could not muster enough offensive power, or defensive stops to come out with the win. When all was said and done, the score showed 11-7 in Nevada’s favor on Friday. The Saturday’s 12-7 loss to Missouri did nothing to raise the moral this weekend. Currently sitting at just 2-7, Gonzaga will have to begin to find their rhythm if they have any hopes of making the PNCLL playoffs.

**The Oregon State Beavers came out with a plan, and executed it very well to start the weekend off. Though Nevada came out hunting for heads in order to disrupt the flow of the Beaver team, it was to no avail. Scoring 6 goals in the first quarter and 11 goals in the first half, Oregon State was never too worried. Azevedo was strong again in goal. With a 69% save average, Josh showed why he currently leads the PNCLL in save percentage. Tyler Tipton’s performance also helped on Saturday. Scoring 5 goals and adding 3 assists, Tipton had the Nevada defense constantly scratching their heads.

Yet, Sunday was another story. Although the Beavers came out again with something to prove, they could not finish the game strong against the University of Missouri. After being tied 3-3, the Beavers lead the game 8-6 at halftime. After the buzzer sounded to signal the end of the third, the Beavers were again ahead 11-9. Yet, penalties got the better of Oregon State in the end. Oregon State’s 11 penalties to Missouri’s 3 finally took their toll in the fourth quarter, when Missouri mounted their 4-1 run and rode it to a one point victory. When all was said and done, the scoreboard read 13-12 in Missouri’s favor.

PLAYOFF PICTURE
The playoff picture continues to be a little blurry. Although Oregon and Oregon State have clinched their spots with strong performances in conference games, the last two spots are still available. It would be foolish to count Simon Fraser out of the third spot, yet the clan still needs to earn some division wins, one over Washington will not cut it. Washington, Gonzaga, and Boise State seem the likely candidates for the last spot, though there is no reason to count Idaho out just yet.

TOP PERFORMERS

JULAIN COFFMAN, JR, Attack, OREGON…Julian showed why he is considered one of the great leaders of the Oregon team. Putting up five goals against Missouri is no easy feat. Consistently providing for his team when he is on the field is what Coffman does well. Time and Time again, he proves why he is third in points per game in the PNCLL.

TREVOR TESAR, JR, Midfield, OREGON...Trevor added 2 goals and 3 assists in the same game against Missouri. Though normally averaging just over 2 points per game, Trevor came out with a big 5 point performance this weekend.

TYLER TIPTON, JR, Attack, OREGON STATE...Tyler Tipton leaves no doubt this year that he deserved his second team all conference selection. Putting up 5 goals and 3 assists on Saturday and adding 4 goals on Sunday, Tyler proves that other teams must respect him.

JOSH AZEVEDO, SO, Goal, OREGON STATE...Putting up a 69% save average on Saturday and a 61% save average on Sunday, Josh came away from the weekend with 39 saves in two days. Leading the PNCLL in save average, teams playing against the Beavers might want to think twice about taking the outside shot. Instead, teams should be looking to make that one extra pass against this goalie if they want to increase their chances getting the ball by him.

GAMES TO WATCH
3/14 Texas @ Oregon State …Look for UT to avenge the 15-11 loss to the Ducks on Oregon’s cross state siblings, the Beavers.

3/14 Duluth @ Oregon … #6Oregon is still undefeated, yet their biggest test is on Tuesday, against #18 Duluth. We’ll see if the Ducks can represent the PNCLL well with a strong win over another top 25 team.

3/16 Duluth @ Washington …If #18 Duluth goes to Seattle unprepared, they might be in for a shock. The Huskies are still young, but look for them to come out with some fire against their first ranked out of conference opponent.

3/16 Chico State @ Oregon…If the Ducks experience trouble against Duluth, then they might have a long week of games. #19 Chico will not be any easier than #18 Duluth.
