LumberJax and Swarm to Face-off in Exhibition Game
PORTLAND, Nov. 9, 2006 – The Portland LumberJax announced today that they will battle the Minnesota Swarm at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in a preseason exhibition game. The match up will take place on Saturday, Dec. 16 in Victoria, BC at 7:05 p.m., marking the first time the arena will host a National Lacrosse League (NLL) game. The Jax exhibition game is part of their third training camp session which runs from Dec. 14 - Dec. 18 in Victoria, BC.
“An exhibition game in Victoria is a great opportunity for everyone involved,” Head Coach and Derek Keenan commented. “Both Minnesota and Portland have a number of players who call Victoria their hometown, making this very exciting for them to perform in front of family and friends right at home.”
Last season the LumberJax matched up against the Swarm where they lost at home, 14-12, but later avenged the defeat on the road by a score of 13-8. The LumberJax finished their inaugural season at the top of the Western Division with a 11-5 record, and the Swarm completed their second season with an 8-8 record in the Eastern Division.
“Victoria is one of the hotbeds for box lacrosse in Canada and certainly are worth of hosting an NLL exhibition game,” Keenan said. “Lacrosse fans in Victoria are well renowned for being the most knowledgeable and raucous lacrosse fans in Canada. It’s going to be an exciting night.”
