Issaquah vs. Seattle Prep Game Recap

Features

Prep battles Issaquah at home in the second of today's division I playoff games.  Issaquah starts off strong as Travis Wright scores with 8:15 remaining in the first quarter on a feed from Nick Yaap to make it 1-0 Issy. Sam Bernoski takes a sweet feed from Shane O'Neill to polish an off-hip shot on Johnson and we are tied with 5:53 left in the first.

Prep is unleashing their shots on Johnson, who is taking inside and outside shots from an invigorated Prep offense. Gerrard is D'ed up on Parietti from behind, and Prep calls a time out. Another couple of good shots, and Issaquah takes possession and gets an offsides with just 15 seconds left in the first quarter. Prep pressures with the double to get the ball back, but Issaquah will start with the ball, and won't have to face off to start the second quarter.

Issaquah comes out shooting and Prep's zone defense seems to still be holding. Parietti brings it in and Spano takes a shot as Johnson makes a crucial save. On his clear, his pass is picked off by Bjorkman who crushes one past a diving Johnson. With 10 minutes in the half, Prep leads 2-1.

Issaquah gets a man-up opportunity and forces prep to spread their zone, allowing Campi to creep a wrap-around and make it 2-2.

Seconds later, Parietti comes off the wing and fires a rocket unassisted to answer back and keep the momentum with 7:55 left; Prep leads 3-2.

Prep is after this game pressing the ball on a clear when a fast break for prep turns into a man-up situation. Bjorkman goes to work behind as he cruises up top to take a feed from Bernoski and scores a sidewinder unassisted bouncing past Johnson making the score 4-2 prep with 6:05 left in the half. Issaquah calls a time out to regroup.  Challenging the possession, and turning over on shots, Issy gets another attempt with the ball they cannot capitalize on.

Prep stops the Issaquah possession and Parietti goes to work. O'Neill has a cannonball go wide, and Johnson will try to clear. Not once, but twice, a hard prep ride causes the ball to come back to Prep, and we have a game on our hands. Issaquah does clear the ball through Gerrard, and in quick succession, Issaquah fires one past from Campi with 2:25 and the score is 4-3 Prep.

Mikey Travers who has been playing phenomenally, gets another fired on a four-pass offensive transition with Yaap feeding Campi for number 4. Just 11 seconds later at the 1:57 mark, Issy hits another from Yaap this time and a feed from Wright. Issaquah is on fire as they score their FOURTH goal in under a minute as Bates beams one around the wing making the score 6-4 with 1:33 left in quarter play.

Prep gets a break in the last minute as Prep gets a penalty on Gerrard to go EMO for one minute. Prep works hard on a good shot, but cannot get a lane, and cannot keep it in the box to maintain possession through the half. Issaquah's attack has most of their 8 shots, while Prep's 13 shots come from the Triad.

Starting the third, Issy takes the ball from Prep's EMO, but turns over on a block shot as they kill the Prep Powerplay. Prep takes the clear and works around as Voeller finds Parietti on the crease as he scores with 8:55 left to make the score 6-5 Issy.

Now Issaquah gets a turn and works possession but cannot get anything cooking.  The Eagles don't follow up the shot, and wind up turning the ball over on the end line. Prep has too many men on the field, and the ball goes to Issaquah again. Prep forces a shot quickly, and Issaquah's fast break is in play again as Campi feeds Yaap coming across the crease, and finishes his work.  With 5:23 left, Issaquah is up 7-5.

Wright gets the fast break at 3:55, and moves it to Bates who tallies number 8 for the 'Quah. Issy has grabbed a hold of the tempo of this game, and another quick transition by the Eagles finds the ball in Bates' stick as he feeds Goldstein for a goal from the right wing. The score is 9-5 Issaquah with 2:50 in the quarter, and Prep is holding on with their nails in this game firing a shot as time expires.

Starting the final quarter, Issaquah takes possession, and has broken the zone down by spreading their offense.  Dodging up top is giving Yaap another opportunity to hit Bates this time for another net. Issaquah comes hard again on possession from the face-off, and works the ball behind to Campi, who finds Yaap firing an underhand worm-burner for Issaquah's 11th point leaving just over 8 minutes left. Parietti is trying to keep Prep in the game with a score on a solo shot dodging from up top off the face making the score 11-6.

Riley Goodman takes a huge shot as he fires a wild one on the crease. Prep just adding a little pressure, allows Issaquah to get the ball to Goodman who has a nice top right shot and its 12-6 Eagles with just over five minutes left. Parietti splits a couple defenders, on his way to the cage, and hits Corr for number 7 for Prep who is not giving up. Parietti rides a clear from Issy and goes back inside under the fold to find Bjorkman for number 8 with under a minute, but it won't be enough to make the semi-finals. Yaaps 3-3 points, and Parietti's 3-1 points were the main contributers, Issaquah will go on to face Garfield next Wednesday.
