HS Boys Div 1 - 3/14/06 Seattle Prep vs Lakeside Game Recap

Information
Yesterday’s Lacrosse was intense in the first games of the Boy’s High School Lacrosse Season. Seattle Prep went out with something to prove defeating Lakeside 10-5. The Panthers looked solid in their debut for 2006, Garfield performs as expected against Roosevelt and Issaquah upsets Mercer Island in an overtime shocker!

Prep vs. Lakeside:
Seattle Prep came out of the gate scoring the first goal on a 1-on-1 dodge from the wing by veteran Andrew Bjorkman. Lakeside answers back to tie the game at 1-1 on a Copenhaver shot.
In the second quarter, Lakeside intercepts a clearing pass from the defense to goalie Mike Travers, where Freshman first-time starter Dylan Holmes rung in his first goal of his high school career making the tally 2-1. Andrew Merrill wins the face-off for Prep and moves the ball around the revitalized Prep offense getting it back for a backside strike making the score 2-2. Merrill had 2 goals on the day. Shane O’Neill, who seems to always shoot like the photographer of Sports Illustrated is watching, Scored on an individual effort with a falling left-handed shot that sneaks by Ian Holmes. Andrew Parietti scored unassisted in the third quarter to make the score 4-2 at halftime.
During the third quarter, Andrew Parietti had another goal quickly in the third quarter followed by a blistering rip to the corner from Parietti, who was 3 and 1 on the day. Lakeside’s Conner Bench answered back for lakeside w/ Bounce shot change up over Mike Travers shoulder.
At the right place at the right time, Lakeside scores a goal on Crease as Dylan Holmes grabbed a rebound on the ground for another score. Holmes had 2 goals on the day, making the count 6-4 at the end of the third quarter.
Prep took advantage of the EMO situations, scoring another goal on man-up by Parietti coming from Bjorkman behind.
AB set up the same look and had middies break up like feeding up top- then snuck the cage with a lefty score 1-on-1 w/ goalie. Bjorkman was the producer for Prep in their first outing. His output, 3 goals, 2 assists led the team in points.
Prep scored again off of a face-off possession to settled offense with a feed to Merrill for his second.
Finally Copenhaver added an inside goal on the crease late in the fourth quarter as Lakeside capitalized on an EMO play.
For the most part, the Prep defense limited Copenhaver to 2 goals and managed to possess the ball very well. The stories of the day were Bjorkman’s stats 3-2, young unknown Ryan Corr at Midfield and the Parietti/O’Neill goal production. Prep had 41 shots on cage, with Holmes registering a tremendous effort saving 21 shots in the 10-5 loss. Prep may have finally found their offensive footing, and Lakeside’s young squad shows a bunch of talent and a keeper who can face some of the league’s biggest guns.
