Easlake vs. Skyline Game Recap
Another game with two undefeated teams tied for first place in the division. Eastlake and Skyline are just down the street from each other and look to be forming a very nice rivalry.
In a man-up situation, Skyline's Calvin Wiley shots with no score. A change of posession takes place and a man down for skyline with 7:19 in the second quarter with the score 2-1 Eastlake. Scoring from Fey and Veintemilla for Eastlake and Wiley for Skyline are the recaps from the first quarter.
There were numerous changes of possession and this looked like a much higher level of play than any other D2 game I have seen so far. With 3:40 left in the 1st half Skyline is playing solid defense. Their defense is forcing turnovers but gets a penalty and spends one minute in the penalty box. Eastlake's Fey feeds Veintimilla for one of his hat trick to score from behind making the score 3-1 with 3 minutes left in the half. Skyline is getting into foul trouble in a very tightly officiated game. Skyline's leading points man dodges three guys and Lachlan Murphy slams one home into the back of the cage. At the same time, he draws another Eastlake penalty to face-off man down. With 2 minutes in the period, Eastlake gives up the ball to Skyline after the face-off as time expires with the score 3-2 at half time.
This is a defensive battle with 6 shots per team so far. Both teams are pretty evenly matched both offensively and defensively. Daniel Sisneros and Riley Gervais are helping cause all the transition to this point.
As the second half gets under way, Calvin Wiley steals a face-off and feeds Murphy for a score in the first 12 seconds of the quarter to make it 3-3. Feel the momentum shift towards Skyline- and then right back. Another penalty for Syline and some nice EMO for Eastlake with good ball movement around the horn, when a shot hits a pipe but does not convert. Skyline works on killing the man down by getting possession and maintaining control of the ball, but cannot get it in the box. This loss of possession turns into Eastlake transition with 9 minutes left in the third.
A bench penalty on Eastlake gives a man up to Skyline whose EMO moves the ball from David Carlton to Austin Strand for the score making it 4-3 Skyline. Skyline has scored two unanswered goals. Skyline calls possession timeout with 6:17 left in the third to put together an offensive play. When play resumes, , Austin Boyd with a shot saved by eastlake's keeper, Eric Tao. Eastlake takes possession with 4:42 left in the 3rd and draws another Skyline 1-minute penalty with 2:48 left in the third. Gervais gets 2 consecutive clears and helps possess the ball for Skyline as they draw another man down for Eastlake with 1:32 in the third. Gervais earns another clear for skyline and eastlake who moves the ball to get a shot as time expires. Eastlake starts man up with penalty called on Skyline. Fourth quarter with a broken clear moving the ball from Sisneros to Fey to Veintimilla for another transition goal with the score 4-4. With Eastlake down two men down Skyline cannot convert.
After changing leads several times, Skyline's David Carlton dodges from up top and feeds brother Andrew Carlton on the crease for the go ahead goal. The score is 5-4 Skyline. Gervais carries the ball over after a short possession for Eastlake making another clear and a shot on cage. This causes transition to Eastlake when Mike Robinson goes back and forth dodging two defenders on the crease to tie it 5-5. Daniel Sisneros with a nice clear for Eastlake, he has been doing great work on Murphy. Skyline being physical, picks up another penalty and goes man down. I have to admit, the officiating for a game like this probably needs three refs. This game is being called very tightly and arguably influenced the game. Eastlake's Fey feeds Veintimilla to five hole skyline keeper Labelle going ahead 6-5. Right away Adam Hicks takes the face-off and goes to the cage scoring on a screen making the total 7-5 Eastlake. For a see-saw game of possession and lead ownership, Eastlake holds the ball for the last two minutes, and walks away with a big win here as the leader of the Evergreen division. Looks like it will be a good round of playoffs if these two battle Tacoma, Lynnwood and Puyallup.
