RECAPS
Coming up this week, the top teams in all three divisions will battle it out. The Landscape may change dramatically in the last week before many teams take their break. Look for some good match-ups across the board and who will stay on the leaderboard against the other division leaders.

DIVISION II
Tacoma Tacoma has come out and dominated in its first four games with no fewer than 10 points per game. Picking up solid wins against some lower ranked teams and handing Klahowya their only defeat, Tacoma is tied at the top of the Olymic conference with new rival Puyallup. With four players over 10 points and two players over 10 goals in Gilson and Chris Wingboldy, Tacoma is generating offense like a powerplant generates electricity. Tacoma will have a real test againt Puyallup on Tuesday.

SkylineAnother undefeated team on the plateau. Skyline’s offense led by Lachlan Murphy has defeated three in-conference rivals and North Kitsap out of conference. Coach Spinelli feels they are finally playing good team ball, and they looked good against Lake Tapps. Riley Gervais, sophomore defensemen had a goal in that game, and will help to keep opposing offenses at bay.

Puyallup Freshman midfielder Nick Moser leads the team in points followed by the midfield brothers, the Puntels. Puyallup has had some close victories against division rivals, but their last game against N.Kitsap, another in conference rival, resulted in a 13-1 victory while traveling. Puyallup is tied for first in the division alongside Tacoma. The exciting thing is, not only is this a first year team, but this is a young team with tremendous potential. Tomorrow’s game against Tacoma should be a good one!

Lynnwood The Lynnwood Tigers seem to be on fire this year. Currently tied with Snohomish in the Skagit conference, big wins over conference rival Stanwood and North County by goal differentials of 12 goals or greater, Lynnwood also has both of the league’s leading scorers in Casey Bloomquist and Sean Girgus. Tuesday will be a battle when Lynnwood faces Snohomish at home for the conference crown.

Eastlake  Eastlake has the smallest goals against of any team in Division II. Eastlake has provided most of its goal production from captains at attack, Veintimilla, and Fey. Although Eastlake is undefeated, their last win is against conference rival Overlake. The two prior were out of conference teams near the bottom of the division. Good or bad, this team hasn’t been tested yet. Look for the results of the Skyline vs.Eastlake on Wednesday.

Snohomish Also picked up three major wins against the bottom three teams in the conference, sitting in a tie with Lynnwood for first in the Skagit, Snohomish has the league’s third highest scorer in Jake Bos. Snohomish also has horses in Burnette and Roulstone; Roulstone a big, powerful face-off middie helps possess as well although he has been playing attack.

Klahowya Won a close one against PA 6-7. Jim Rapasz continues to carry the offense on his shoulders and sits amongst the top five for ground balls and for assists. Moen and Holm continue to contribute. This week, Klahowya looks to pick up another conference win against S. Kitsap, and go into the break 4-1.

Franklin Franklin found two wins against Tapps and Rainier, but dropped a close one to undefeated Skyline last week. Franklin is trusting in former Eastside former Eastlake player J.R. DeRoulx as the high points leader for the team and his cohort Hiep Do to continue their winning ways. Franklin plays a good one against Overlake this week. If Franklin can keep Overlake on their heels missing their top keeper, the offense may be very productive.

Overlake  Overlake has been hit hard with injuries, losing All-state goalie Rahim Parpia to a broken hand and several other starters to injuries. This week they picked up a conference win over Mt. Rainier, but it looks like Overlake is planning for the future with so many starters on injured reserve. Last weekend, Overlake made a strong showing at the Eastern Washington jamboree, congrats on representing the west.

Stanwood Plays Whatcom first this week, followed by Snohomish. Two big division games that will help decide the fate of the number one team in the Skagit. Whatcom should be a good battle to set the stage for a Snohomish showdown. Stanwood will have to lean on Schwab, Toepfer, Brandt and Downs to carry through this week 2-0.

North County New team North county will have a pair of important division games this week against both Whatcom and Mukilteo. North County dropped the last two against conference leaders Lynnwood and Snohomish, but may not be a true representation of their capabilities. Offensive leader Channing Morrison will have his work cut out for him this week in an important conference week of play continues.

N. Kitsap Winning one game of their first four, N. Kitsap enters this week looking to get a divisional win against Port Angeles and generate some more offense. Nussbaumer and Stemmler will have to be the leaders here. Look for a close one against PA this week.

Whatcom Whatcom enters the week 1-3 overall, with 2 losses to the tied division leaders and one out of conference; Whatcom may have a benchmark game in the work against Stanwood. Curry Boyd leads the team’s offense with 11 points in four games, followed by Pritchett and Smith as offensive threats. Depending whether Pritchett is playing mid or attack, Whatcom could have a balanced scoring capability. Look to see the offense develop as the season goes on.

S. Kitsap In their first outing, the Wolves gave Puyallup a close, 1-goal game and have kept it close against N. Kitsap but could not execute against Tacoma or hold back the offense .This week against Klahowya and PA may mark a turning point for the Wolves.

Port Angeles  Tied for the last spot in the Olympic Division, PA has played three of the toughest opponents in Division II and lost a fourth in their last game on Friday against Klahowya. Most of the points are fairly well divided amongst several of on the team. If PA can win against the Kitsaps, they may be in a more realistic spot in a week or so for their abilities.

Mukilteo The Mojo are poised for a move from the bottom of the Skagit conference. Three of their first four games have been conference leaders leaving them with a challenging perspective. Hopefuls Sean Anderson and Chris Shaw have contributed to most of the teams offense in their first for meetings, but the Mojo may be a late season bloomer.

Lake Tapps  Another first year team in the toughest conference in Division II. With Corey Carson, Skyler Cichy and Bolton Lancaster, Tapps places the bulk of their production. In a great stand against undefeated Puyallup, Tapps is developing all the skills early in the season to bring late season games closer. Out of division rivals will also help increase the level of play as well. Look for Tapps to improve with every game.

Mt. Ranier Mt. Rainier has suffered the challenges of a young inexperienced team with only a few irons to help mold the rest, Rainier is building on Kendal Cortese, Daniel Merrill, brother of Andrew Merrill from Prep, and Matt Nugent. With the right mindset, each game can dramatically improve their ability to play.

TOP PERFORMERS

CASEY BLOOMQUIST, SR, Attack, LYNNWOOD...The league leader in scoring with no less than 8 points per game, spread evenly for attacks and assists. Casey is leading the Tigers to the top of the division, and is a pure, hard-working player that embodies all the traits a captain should have.

ANTHONY PUNTEL, SR, Midfield, PUYALLUP...The oldest Puntel brother Captains the Puyallup offense and seems to be all over the field at all times. Anthony had a huge performance as a midfielder shows the balance a solid midfield contributor must have to lead his team. This week, he scores 13 points and 25 ground balls. This is a solid performance for a face-off man.

LACHLAN MURPHY, SO, Midfield, SKYLINE… Lachlan broke out with 5 goals against Lake Tapps, and earned hat tricks in each of the last three games. Murphy is becoming a solid offensive creator and leads Skyline’s offense in total points.
