Walax.com's Defensive Clinic with Brian Kelly a Big Success!

Walax put on a free clinic Saturday from 2-4pm at the Interlake High School fields formerly known as the 5/6th Crease Monkey field way in the back of the school. With so many youth games, we had some late arrivals and wound up staying until 6pm instead.

We had more than 65 kids throughout the clinic looking for Defensive advice on how to carry their stick, pass, catch, dodge, check and move with a long stick. Brian Kelly MLL and NLL player was on hand to demonstrate all the fundamentals, and a little something for the experts as well.

The clinic started off with some good individual fundamental drills about ground balls, catching, throwing and of course, some checking. The focus of all these drills is how do new players participate in line drills, and develop their skills as a defensive player with a six-foot stick. Defensemen learned where to hold their sticks when playing defense or carrying the ball.
With lots of coaches present from Issaquah, Bellevue, Lynnwood and lots of parents as well, several comments about how nice it was to have a “defense only” clinic for all aspects of defense.
We had several campers who won prizes; Walax.com donated two pairs of gloves, and several beanies for outstanding campers. When asked if everyone picked up at least one thing from the clinic, every defensemen raised his hand.   The clinic was a great success, and we would like to thank Brian Kelly and Ryan Kelly for their coaching help, and all the players that came to participate - we had a great time with you! Look out for the next Walax.com clinic coming soon!
