The Real Deal

Yo,

What’s going on people? I know no one will answer that but it’s a good way to start a blog. Get the readers into the flow of things right from the start, make them feel like they can connect with what they are reading…….maybe not.

Finally some snow in the city of Seattle. I mean they call it snow out here but where I’m from (Syracuse N.Y.) this is considered a morning frost. I went to college in Baltimore MD and I thought they didn’t know how to handle snow.

Seattleites make Balties look like true outdoorsmen. No plows, no salt on the roadway, hills closed, two hour delays when there is no snow on the roads, talk about cautious. I was in Portland this weekend for Lumberjacks practice and apparently it snowed Saturday night. I awoke Sunday morning to drive home for Seattle Starz practice, turned on the T.V. and the weatherman was telling me not to leave the Hotel.  “Hazardous conditions that were only going to get worse” he ranted and raved, making outrageous claims about accidents and snow tires not being enough to get around, please. Like 99% of all Americans do I turned off the T.V. and decided not to listen to what he was saying. Packed up my car and hit the road. No problems, no spinouts, no fishtails, no accident. 4 hours later after playing bumper tag with some “cautious drivers” I arrived back home in time for the High school teams practice.

Speaking of practice, first official weekend of Lumberjax practice came and went. It actually went well. It has taken me some time to adapt to the game speed of the NLL but I think I’ll be alright. It is much more physical than the outdoor game and a little faster because of the size of the field. The ball moves faster and there are no out of bounds. All in all I’m having a lot of fun and the guys on the team are great. I’m one of four Americans while the rest are Canadians and they all play either box or ice hockey. A little rough around the edges but hey play hard and like to have fun, a lot of fun, Molson fun……

Our Seattle Starz high school team is doing well and looking forward to the Adrenaline tournament in San Diego. We recently just came off a tough loss in the Space Needle Shoot out but continue to work hard. We lost in the semi finals in OT and should have won that game to play in the U-16 finals. There was a lot of great competition there and the fact that we almost had a chance to play in the championship is good but we all understood that our goal was not to be a runner up. We practice to win tournaments every weekend so they understand that success and respect is something that they must themselves earn before it is given. We are on pace for some great things and I feel fortunate to coach one of if the most focused group of high school lacrosse players on the west coast. For those who don’t believe me, come watch us practice, Marymoor Park Sunday  5pm – 7pm.

LOVE THE BLOG MAN!!! REALLY PASSES THE TIME WHILE IN THE OFFICE.

LumberJacks

Hey Coach...You brought it up... about your teamates playing either Box or Ice Hockey. If that indeed is their "secret sauce", perhaps we need to strap you into some skates, give you a hockey stick and have you do some serious "training" on the ice rink... all in the spirit of improving your Lacrosse Game.

you aint seen nothin yet...

Just wait until we get a real dump of snow, maybe in the next day or two, and you'll see this City shut down. For some reason Seattle just doesn't fare well with snow and ice; probably a combined factor of not dealing with it every season and having a lot of "transplants" living here who have never dealt with it. I'm hoping for a white Christmas myself-that would be awesome! BTW-we'll get the players to practice one way or another as they have some unfinished business to prepare for in San Diego. They are hungry to snag a tournamnet title there and certainly have the talent to do it. They looked great at the SN Shootout and just fell a hair short, but learned a valuable lesson along the way and will be better players as a result.
