Good teams will get left out of the playoffs in D-2
The playoff set-up in D-2 just wasn't well thought out. How can a team like Mukilteo, currently five wins and three losses in a really tough conference with Redmond (undefeated), Northshore (only loss to Redmond) and Snohomish (only losses have been in conference) not get a bid to the playoffs when in the Skagit conference at best the record of the two teams getting into the playoffs will be 5 wins and 5 losses. That just isn't right. And why does the Olympic region get 2 teams in the playoffs when they only have a three team league? Oh and take away the two automatic wins each of the three teams got through forfeits and the records of the two top teams in the Olympic region aren't great either.
Mukilteo is a top team, with some great players, and they won't get into the playoffs. That's a travesty. Can't the powers that be fix this?
Whatcom & San Juan
What's also funny is that they probably have the two easier matchups of all the teams. San Juan (5-5 in the Skagit Conf. with a negative +/-) plays Klahowya, and Whatcom (also 5-5 with a negative +/-) plays Port Angeles. I can't believe it, but there's a good chance that San Juan and Whatcom might actually advance a round in the playoffs. All this is happening while Northshore and Nathan Hale (close seconds in the two toughest conferences) have to battle it out in the first round. Amazing. However, complaining's probably not worth our breath anymore because I'm sure the message has been heard, and the structure will be changed next year. I just thought I would mention those interesting playoff matchups.
The real travesty is ...
....Mukilteo started 0-3. "0 for" teams do not deserve playoff berths. Lets look at the wins. North County? Not exactly a powerhouse is it. San Juan? I applaud the effort by the team but nobody wants to spend the day and the money to travel to San Juan and pummel them. Mukilteo should fix its own wagon first before complaining about poor conference divisions.
Snohomish will be a decent team when they realize lacrosse is not spring football. Some stick skills and ball handling, they will find, will go much further than physically beating someone.
On another note- What happens when lacrosse becomes WIAA? Who will be in Mukilteo's division? Will Mukilteo be able to handle those teams when they cannot handle those who are in D2.
What are you talking about?
Ok, Mukilteo lost and EXHIBITION to DI Garfield in their first game and then had the unfortunate scheduling of playing Redmond and Northshore in their next two. They have not had a loss all year except for these two powerhouses (and the final two were very close). You may need to go to one of these team's games before you make a clueless comment like that one. The real travesty is you comparing them to North County. That's rediculous.
there was not a comparison
there was not a comparison to north county in the previous comment!
Stop whining
I am sure they are competitive NOW. No race is ever won by starting last regardless of that hare/ tortoise FABLE ( if you recall the rabbit screwed around on his way to the finish line- the moral of the story is get the job done NOT slow and steady wins the race). If you cannot beat those in your division, you are not getting the job done. You have no business complaining about the playoffs. This is big boy lacrosse. END OF STORY.
been over this
This subject has been talked about in previous forums. The Main point that is made here is correct, two solid playoff teams will be left out of the playoffs. But at the beginning of the year, no one knows who will be good, so you set up a system you feel will be fair on many different levels. In fact, the worst team in the skagit conference was picked my many to finsh in the top of that division, and they are 0-7!
the point is that anything can happen during the season, and you can't go and change the playoff system with two weeks left in the season to try and include only the top teams! it is regionally done, just like in any other HS sport, and in the professional ranks.
Take this season in basketball, the western conference had four teams who missed the playoffs which had better records than three teams that made the playoffs in the East. That is the way it works, is it fair, sometimes no. But that is the way it is.
With that said, Even though there is no way to switch or change it, I agree, it would be nice to see what mukilteo and snohomish do in the playoffs instead of whatcom or san juan...I guess either way, we'll be watching seattle prep play someone and beat them!
I agree
Mulkiteo and Snohomish are both solid teams. Either one of them would destroy any team in the Skagit conference, yet two of those inferior teams get in with Mukilteo and Snohomish getting left out. I thought the playoffs were supposed to be about the best teams, not conference diversity. The system is garbage.
Mukilteo/Snohomish vs. Whatcom/San Juan
Both Mukilteo and Snohomish have better records than Whatcom and San Juan and obviously beat them head to head as well (in Snohomish's case, they blew out both teams- Whatcom 14-6 and San Juan 14-2). Everyone knows its ridiculous; hopefully they will change the structure for next year. The bottom line is you can't have such small divisions with no wild cards, and the schedule is way too short and too limited regionally.
