RECAPS

 PNCLL-A
**Oregon came out on fire this week. Pummeling Dominican, they held their heads high with smiles on their faces as if they were running through a field full of dandelions. Yet all they could do was quack as that smile turned upside down. Losing three in a row to Notre Dame, Sonoma State, and then finally Cal poly put the only numbers up in the Ducks’ losses column. Though the ducks did seem to get handled by Notre Dame, they did have good chances to clinch the “W” on the other two losses. On a very wet field, Sonoma State just had more in them to finish the game, stretching out a 10-7 lead after the entire game was neck-n-neck. Oregon showed some resilience as they fought back. They brought the game to within one but could not find the final goal to send it into overtime. The next game was against Cal Poly, which the Ducks played very tired. Never on the same page, the Ducks looked uncharacteristically disorganized. Looks like the Ducks need to go back to chalk-talk and re-learn the flying V play; a three game losing streak is not typical for this team.

**The Oregon State Beavers also played Cal Poly this weekend; also losing with the same exact score of 13-14. Though the offense did perform very well in this game, neither the defense nor the Oregon State goalie (Azevedo) played very well. Letting in 14 goals, the team never had a chance.

**Boise State and Washington Played in a game that would determine who could slip into the final spot in the PNCLL-A playoffs. Boise State came out looking lackadaisical letting the young Huskies jump out to a 3-0 lead early in the game. Absolutely dominating the first quarter, the young Huskies were determined to make the playoffs. Yet, the man down team could not fend off the Boise State team’s man up. Circling like vultures around the goal, Boise State picked apart the Washington Defense capitalizing on the penalties that were plaguing the young Huskies. Tied 7-7 going into the stretch, both teams dug deep. One garbage travesty of a goal later, Boise State went up 8-7 to end out the game. Overall the Boise State team established themselves as a solid team as they walked off the field in jubilation.

PNCLL-B
**The Utah Valley State College came out and humbly finished the job against an inferior Linfield team. The UVSC freshman keeper, Heward recorded 16 saves as he stood like a wall in front of the goal. At certain points in the game, the fans stated they could see in his eyes that he felt like he was playing catch with the shooters. The Linfield midfield did muster a respectable 10 points combined, yet the attack was weak and useless. Producing almost nothing, the attack seemed overwhelmed the entire game. Linfield still played very well considering they were very absolutely outmatched in every way.

**Understanding what happened against UVSC, Taylor Brennan put the pride of the attack on his shoulders. Scoring four goals and adding an assist, Taylor had a great game. Yet, this time it seemed to be the Defense that was lacking any solidarity. Playing with a lot of heart, it was a great loss for Linfield.

PLAYOFF PICTURE

PNCLL-A
With SFU winning over Boise State, They clinched the top-3 spot in the playoffs. Right now it looks like Oregon and Oregon State will hold the top two spots respectively. The playoff hopes are all but gone for Washington. All the young Huskies can hope for is BSU losing their last two division games. Baring any miracles, Oregon will match up with BSU in the first round, and Simon Fraser will play against Oregon State to advance to the PNCLL finals.

PNCLL-B

Montana, Western Washington, and Southern Oregon have qualified for the 2006 playoffs. Again, Montana and WWU have all but secured the #1 and #2 spots. This will advance them straight to the second round. Yet, Southern Oregon will have to play the #6 team to advance. Central Washington, Whitman, and PLU each have good chances to make it into the playoffs. With so many teams fighting for spots, it will come down to the last few games to determine “who wants it.”

TOP PERFORMERS
AARON PASCAS, SO, Goalie, SIMON FRASER…Pascas repeatedly shows why he is the best goalie throughout the PNCLL. Winning the title in 2005, he is seeking another in 2006. Posting a 71% save average as he records 15 saves this week; he played pretty well, eh?

TAYLOR BRENNAN, SR, Attack, LINFIELD...Carrying the entire reputation of the Linfield attack, Taylor posted four goals against Utah State. This loss is making Linfield’s playoff hopes look less certain, and more like a haze.

GAMES TO WATCH
4/8 PLU @ Whitman… Very important game for both teams; If they hope to keep the playoffs within their reach. Look for each team to give it their all.

4/8 Oregon @ BYU…This is a rematch of the last game each of these teams played last year. After both teams were knocked out of title contention, they played in the consolation finals. In the last minute, the Ducks ripped the game away from BYU who was ranked #1 in the tournament.

4/9 Western Washington @ Montana… Top two PNCLL-B teams are going to play in a game this next week. This could very well be the same game played in the playoffs to decide who gets to go to Nationals.
