Oregon vs. Oregon St This Weekend
After a long stretch of out-of-conference games, the most recent being a rough trip to Utah two weekends ago, the Ducks look to wrap up the regular season with a big win. While in Utah, the Ducks shutout Utah Valley State College (#4 Div. B) 14-0 but then fell hard to the BYU Cougars the following day, 13-5. As a result, the Ducks are now in a must win situation. A win over the Oregon State Beavers this Saturday will seal the #1 seed in the PNCLL tournament for the Ducks.
This would put them in the best possible position to win the tournament, which they must do to guarantee themselves a trip to the National Tournament in Dallas, Texas in early May.
The Civil War will be held this Saturday during the Portland Laxworld Invitational Tournament at Delta Park in Portland, OR. The Ducks and the Beavers will face off at 5:30PM on the center field. Both teams are undefeated in conference play and the rivalry between the two has remained heated over the years. While the Ducks are coming off a disappointing loss to BYU, the Oregon State Beavers are entering the game after a 17-1 victory over Linfield two weeks ago. Each team has had plenty of time off over the past two weeks to guarantee that this Civil War is going to be a real battle for that #1 PNCLL seed. All Northwest lacrosse enthusiasts and players are encouraged to come out and watch Oregon’s finest go at it.
Oregon Assistant Coach Erik Hewitt on this Saturday’s match-up:
"From here on out we have to win all of our games and this weekend’s match-up is guaranteed to be a tough one. It’s time for us to come together, start finishing our shots, and play to our ability."
Team Captain Todd Jolly (#24, Jr.) on the Civil War: "Playing against the Beavers is always an intense game because of the established Civil War tradition. Even though this is the Civil War, I feel like this is just one more battle we have to win in order to win the war for the national title. I feel like our team is finally coming together, we just need to take one game at a time. Go Ducks."
Team Captain Matt Connors (#11, Sr.) on the rest of the season: "As a senior, I’m looking forward to this final league game because I think we’re finally catching our stride. The two-week break has been a good chance to work on our game and get on the right path.
Hopefully we can take it all the way and have some fun doing it. And then after that we can get on to bowling a few rounds."
