2008 HS AAs

All the kids named above are worthy candidates, but I voted for Dayton. It's always difficult to rank non-scoring long-poles against offensive players who have goals and assists and goalies who have save percentages and goals-against averages.

But college coaches -- especially at the DI level -- value athleticism over lacrosse skills in many cases, and Dayton is one of the finest athletes Washington state has ever produced. He is also a great young man, and should be an absolute force on the field again for BI in his Senior season.

...

The only people on this list that actually deserves the All-American title is Caldwell and Gilbreath and maybe Gervais. I don't think anyone else should be on this list. I think there are many players that can outplay these people. How about Max Olson? Haha...no MI player this year..

So, what are the criteria for being an All-American?

it would appear that DI programs are dominantly All-Americans, but what other things do coaches look at? Stats? what type of kid he is? if he is in the "track" to play college? What program he comes from? His ability to control a game? Seems like these guys are either people that take over a game, or stop people from doing so...

Gervais will be All-American

Gervais will be All-American for sure. Unless Landon Carr has drastically improved he shouldn't even be considered for all-state yet.

Yeah that Carr kid is

Yeah that Carr kid is actually pretty good.. and he is a gargantuan. I'm pretty sure Yaap and Wright will turn some heads this season though.

Travis, Riley, and Carr

uhh...

how can caldwell not be one of your picks?

how can you say that....

landon shouldn't even be considered for all-state yet when he was second team all-state last year?

Sympathy for Yergler?

Wasn't here another returning Curtis middie with almost twice as many points as Carr? I can't imagine that this list doesn't start and end with 1st team All-State players - including great players that didn;t get on the field last year like Wright. There are lots of good rising Jrs and Srs who will make their mark this year from contenders. It'll be interesting to watch things develop. I think we've seen that it's improbable for a star from a "non-contender" (read "non semi-finalist") to become All-American.

Bainbridge Defense

We added Dayton, because by all rights, he may be right there as well.
