New Face, New Team, Same Results

Born in London England, raised in Victoria BC, Lewis Ratcliff has became and continues to be a household name in our sport. It has been 9 years since he was drafted by Calgary in 2001 making his professional debut. 2 Mann Cups, an NLL title and close to 1,000 points (WLA & NLL combined) later #42 is still doing his thing. This year Lewis Leads the league in scoring (14g) and is 4th in points (29) through 5 games. WALAX got a chance to ask Lewis a few quick questions before this weekend’s game. The Washington Stealth host the visiting Minnesota Swarm this Friday February 5th, 8pm @the Comcast arena in Everett, WA.

1.) WALAX: You grew up and currently live in Victoria BC. How nice has it been for you considering this is the closest you have ever played to home professionally?

LR42: Unbelievable!! I love the commute and the fact that my family can come to any game they want. I really couldn't ask for anything more.

2.) WALAX: Were you concerned when you learned that you would be leaving a well established and popular franchise (Toronto) for a franchise relocating to a brand new lacrosse area (Washington)?

LR42: No, I was more excited to be a part of something new. I wasn't too familiar with Everett when the trade happened but after a few weeks I can see us really blowing up here.

3.) WALAX: Aside from less travel, What has been the best part of the season playing for the Stealth?

LR42: There have been many great things. The guys are awesome and I think we are starting to build that family atmosphere. Also, I have had a good relationship with CH, Doug and Arty for a few years now so that just makes everything even more comfortable.

4.) WALAX:  What will be essential for you guys in making sure you continue to win games?

LR42: I think just continuing on with what we have done. Our offence needs to continue to be unselfish and move the ball, and our D and goalies just need to keep up the good work.

5.) WALAX: Greatest lesson that professional Lacrosse have taught you?

LR42: Be prepared and ready for every game, because there are no easy wins.

6.)   WALAX: Weapon of Choice (you can choose any stick, give me your favorite of all time or what you would use if you could use any stick)?

LR42: After a season last year of using literally 10 different sticks and never feeling comfortable i finally have a 6K that I love!! Having a good weapon is half the battle.

7.)  WALAX: You Run a Peak Performance Gym in Victoria (http://lewisratcliff.net/) along with coaching at the High School Level. What advice would you give young players as they prepare for the start of the Season?

LR42: Just put the work in!! Once you get to a certain level everyone is good so the guys willing to work harder are the ones who will succeed.
