November 28 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team and Head Coach Joe Kerwin have announced their schedule for the upcoming 2008 season. NDNU is the closest NCAA Lacrosse program, and several Washington players play for former Oregon Head Coach Joe Kirwin. If you have an opportunity, catch one of these games from our local rising DII NCAA program.
The Argos’ schedule features nine Division II games, including a game against powerhouse Mercyhurst. NDNU will travel to Erie, Pennsylvania on April 19th to face the Lakers. Mercyhurst finished the 2007 season with the #1 ranking in DII but fell to Le Moyne in the Championship.
In addition to Mercyhurst, the Argos will travel back east for six other games against Division II schools. On their first trip, starting on March 8th and ending March 15th, NDNU will take on Mars Hill, Catawba, St. Andrews and Belmont Abbey. Their second trip, which features the Merceyhurst game, will also pit the Argos against Wheeling Jesuit and Seton Hill.
NDNU is also scheduled to face Grand Canyon University, Whittier College, Claremont College, Dominican University, Chico State and UC Davis.
Grand Canyon added lacrosse this season and is a Division II independent while Whittier is a DIII school. The Argos and Poets are very familiar with each other, as they squared off twice last year with NDNU taking both games by one goal.
“I am very pleased with the schedule we have put together this season.” Coach Kerwin said. “With nine games against Division II teams, we will get an opportunity to see where we stand.”
The Argos will open the season February 9th at home against Claremont College. The game will be at 1:00 pm at Koret Field in Belmont, California.
