WALOA Needs You!

The Washington Lacrosse Officials Association (WALOA) is looking for new officials. You should consider this opportunity.
Lacrosse is a high-energy sport, played primarily in the Spring, that resembles a combination of basketball, hockey, and soccer being played on a soccer field. Athletes use their sticks to pass and catch the ball, shoot on the goal, and pick up the ball, which spends very little time on the ground. Recognized by the NCAA and a growing number of NFHS state organizations, lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in Washington State. There are over 70 high school teams, 80 middle school teams, and 30 Bantams (4-5-6 grade). These numbers grow by 20% each year.
As the sport expands, there is tremendous demand for lacrosse officials at every level. Many officials join the lacrosse officiating ranks from other sports, readily becoming attuned to this fine game, and sharing in the camaraderie of this sport. The training provided is clear and concise, and is designed to provide the information and skills you will need to learn and implement the rules, mechanics, and techniques of officiating lacrosse. Our mentoring program will place you with a seasoned official who can answer all of your questions and help guide you through your “rookie” season.
Lacrosse officials earn game fees of $40.00 for Middle School Games, $60.00 per game for high school games, and college officials earn $125.00 per game.
Even if you have never played or officiated lacrosse before, we welcome you to join our organization. More information is available on the WALOA web page, http://www.waloa.info/.
Official’s training starts January 26, and the season starts in March.
Please contact me if you have any concerns or questions. I look forward to meeting you and having you contribute to the growth of lacrosse in Washington State. Have fun!
